It seems the gitgud/ skip content people arent understanding the the meaning of the post (chances are they have a complex where they need to feel better about themselves) End of story everyone has a huge issue with things in life that do bleed over in game . I JUST got a colorblind mode after waiting forever and a day for it. You like math? well hows your riddle skills? how you going to feel when something comes out that you want to do cant be done easy as the rest of the game because of your short comings. We all log in to have fun, not get trashed on by someone who cant look past their own need to feel superior to someone else (happens when ya mess up in the raid, we all had it happen to us in one way or another) Want hard raids? this game has never had true hard raids like back in the birth of the MMO age.

I'm not trying to shame or anything. Honest. And yes, something may eventually come out that I won't be able to do because of my own shortcomings (in fact Savage and Ultimate already fill this role... but meh)

We've already suggested to let the party know about potential struggles. In my experience the community is very understanding when it comes to stuff like that.

I do that whenever I get phonecalls midfight. It's inconvenient as hell.

If it's really that upsetting, then print off a grid of numbers. One for your HP, one for the stat he calls. And then mark which numbers you need to go to for the mechanic.

On ressurections, DO NOT accept one during the math phase if you died before subtract. Your health will show you being at your normal health BUT you will have 0 health for the purpose of the math questions...which also means anything above 4 cannot be obtained and thus will be failed.

I would still probably advocate for getting up. Even with 4 being the maximum number you can obtain without the Subtraction buff, that means the only question you won't be able to answer is Divisible by Five. Otherwise, you can do Three (stand on three), Four (stand on four), and Prime (stand on two or three) just fine.

its so sad that the majority are in defense of this horrible excuse of a mechanic, i really really hope SE doesn't put more lame mechanics into the game like this because i would seriously quit

It's so sad that you're advocating the removal of a mechanic for such a selfish reason. Just because you have a problem with it doesn't make it a bad mechanic and doesn't mean SE needs to remove it. Like I said in my previous reply, advocating for the removal of a mechanic just because some people have a disability that makes it nigh impossible for them to do it means you may as well advocate for the removal of any mechanic that makes the boss do more than just stand in one spot the entire fight.

I'm an adult so I would either try to find a workaround or I would simply not do the content. I wouldn't throw a fit and ask for the entire mechanic to be thrown out the window. Like I said above and in my previous reply, there's always going to be someone, somewhere that has a disability or shortcoming that will make it hard for them to complete certain mechanics. If we remove Computation because some people have Dyscalculia, by that silly logic we need to remove all other mechanics too to make the game fair for all other differently abled players.

I actually don't do any calculations beforehand. (mental math is not my strong suit anyway, but thankfully these are only single digit numbers XD)

I see my HP number, I see what construction 7 wants, then I run through the circles one by one until I find a number that matches. (or I stay outside a circle if the number already matches)
I have trouble focusing sometimes, so this has worked well enough for the most part, though I've been too slow a few times.

I can see how this mechanic could require reaction in a manner that many people aren't expecting and where they would find it difficult to react as quickly as something like a telegraphed physical attack. And I say this as someone who has no issues with it. I work in IT. Math is second nature to me. I think the unfortunate thing is that groups ARE ridiculing those who have difficulty with the mechanic. I've seen some pretty nasty macros and commentary in alliance chat. I would have to say I'm in the camp that says this was an interesting experiment, but it's just not a good fit for this game.

I struggle with the math part too, but not because of the math.

The mechanic is actually pretty hard to follow. First time (going blind) I didn't even know our HPs were supposed to be used in the equation. That's how unclear the mechanic was from the start. They should maybe call attention to that more.

The second part of it, is in the way the question is asked. It is a convoluted way of basically saying "add this" or "subtract this." Having to think subtract/add when he's telling you to divide... I can see that being extremely hard for some people. Division/multiplication is probably the hardest part of basic math that people struggle with.

The third part of it, is that it's all in flying text, which a lot of the times I completely ignore. Usually because it's irrelevant jibberjabber from NPCs. The game has kind of trained me to ignore that stuff.

Add (sorry) to all of that, someone's difficulty with math, and you end up with one confusing round of "what the hell am I doing?"

That being said, I've only run the raid twice. So I don't think they should remove the mechanic. But maybe next time they can think on ways to make it easier to follow. And possibly this go around, make the penalty less severe on failure.

seriously don't bother explaining the mechanic to me, its sometimes like you're speaking another language to me when talking about math, i simply don't get it, at all... for those saying to write down the answers or such, it would still take me longer then 10 seconds to refer to the sheet and then do the thing in game, like this sorta mechanic i could understand being in savage but not in a 24 player raid

seriously try living in the shoes of someone with a learning disability, try it, try sacraficing you normally would use to play the game, like one of your hands or get reshade and play with dof always on, try avoid using number keys entirely and just use your mouse clicker for casting and such, this is basically the difficulty of having a learning disability, it makes simple things like multiplications and division difficult

There are people who have no hands and play video games, some play at levels better then people with hands. There secret is not letting their disabillity get the best of them not giving up, the moment you say I can't do this your disability wins and you are forever on the road of losing too it.

I think the mechanic is fine. I actually quite enjoy its uniqueness and haven't had any issues with it since I realized how it works. I remember another thread where someone wanted SE to remove a mini-game that required unscrambling a word because they have dyslexia. SE isn't going to change content that 90% of people have no issues with because a small minority have trouble with the mechanics.

If we start removing things because some people have trouble, every fight is going to be people standing there hitting what amounts to a training dummy.

I have to wonder when people decided to give up because they have a disability instead of actually doing things to overcome it.

Is just simple 1 digit math.... And before anyone says "but i have to dodge or do other stuff while doing math so is too hard" please stop, you can literally stop dpsing and just do the math. Im no genius i just count with my fingers

Seeing is simple, unless you're blind.
Running is simple, unless you're paralysed.
Speaking is simple, unless you're dumb.
Listening is simple, unless you're deaf.
Spelling is simple, unless you're dyslexic.
Calculation is simple, unless you're dyscalculic.

See the problem? It is a recognised *DISABILITY* & no matter how 'simple' a sum may be to an unaffected person it is simply gibberish & impossible to someone with dyscalculia. Their brain is *unable* to do the mathematics. They can't learn how to.

You wouldn't insist that reading is simple to a blind person & that they should just get on with it, so why be quick to insist a similar thing of someone with dyscalculia?
