Guess the gimmick of 5.0

We are nearing the end of 4.x and speculation threads keep popping up. The name, the destination, the jobs.

But what about the central gimmick?

Heavensward had flying. Stormblood had swimming. What will 5.0 have? It is generally accepted that we will go to Garlemald. So what fits them?

Space exploration? That would look cool and could lead to pretty nice looking zones. But in terms of gameplay it would just be another version of flying. Then again so was swimming.

Can you imagine a zero gravity zone? Maybe zones where you can walk on all sides of an asteroid? With space stations for the PuPu?

Some kind of underground exploration with tunnels/sewers that are sooo damn dark that you can only go down with a lightsource? Claustrophobic places filled with jumpscares, ambushes and survival horror?

Or would the gimmick this time be unrelated to exploration?

Honestly have no idea, Space was mentioned once but that seems a bit unnecessary.

Well. No idea what the dev team is thinking since we have no hints that I know of, whereas when heavensward was coming out they mentioned they considered doing swimming then, but decided to do flying first.

Personally, I'd just like to see swimming expanded on a bit. SB didn't really utilize it that much, which I guess is good in the sense that it didn't wear out its welcome. But it seems like it could be utilized a bit more without becoming obnoxious...

My guess would be them pulling a FFXI wings of the goddess on us, and having us time travel to past forms of zones.

Well, when we have at least something solid on the expansion, it's gonna be easier to guess.

We still got a year left of Stormblood, and at least 2 major updates with Story, maybe they'll pull a Heavensward and conclude what little Garlemald stuff is going on in 3.5 and in 3.6 start setting up something completely different.

Ala Mhigo didn't really become a big thing until after Nidhogg and the Warriors of Darkness were done.

Same hre. I really like the Ruby Sea and how good the underwater parts look, but there isn't really much to do.

That could be nice. Double the number of zones. Some insane phasing if we do stuff in the past. Would be easier with a single player game, but could be fun.

Probably, yes. But the Doman storyline has ended and two of the Scions are already en route to Garlemald. We are in the epilogue phase. A nice long epilogue, but an epilogue nonetheless.
