A fatal DirectX error has occurred received when starting the game

Hi all. Just received an error for the first time ever since I played.

I logged in today and received this error after logging in and starting the game.

A fatal DirectX error has occurred. (1000003d)

Yesterday, I was able to play the game well with no issues. Today, I updated my BIOS and Windows 10. So I suspect that it's because of that.

I tried searching 'Direct X' in my Start menu and found nothing. But I can run the dxdiag command though. Do I have to install Direct X manually again? Or are there other possible fixes for this? I already updated my Nvidia Game Ready Drivers and tried to play but the same error still occurs.

I did think of uninstalling then installing once again. However, I was only able to have a backup before the release of Patch 4.2, so I'm saving this method as last resort.

Any help would be appreciated. I will reply if I'm able, because I'm mostly busy on weekdays

The same errror started appearing right after I updated Windows 10 to latest april update package.
It launches in fullscreen mode for Dx11.
The only way to launch the game in Dx9 (which is what I'm using due to huge FPS drop in Dx11 mode) is changing screenmode to 'borderless windowed' through .cfg file and then changing to fullscreen mode in game options.

I have this exact same problem. Where can I go to change the screenmode to 'borderless windowed'?

I also started having this problem after my computer installed the latest Windows 10 update. I found that changing from DX9 mode to DX11 lets me get into the game and it seems to be working ok once I'm in.

However, when I log out of the game I get a message about an "unexpected error" occurring when exiting FFXIV. It lists a bunch of dll files as well as some ffxiv_dx11.exe files. I just click ok on those message boxes and it goes back to the desktop just fine, but it still bugs me that they are happening at all.

I've considered rolling back the Windows 10 update, but since the problems right now qualify mostly as "nuisance" I haven't bothered.

go to C:\Users\"USERNAME"\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn (this is location for standalone version, don't know about Steam version .cfg file location)
and open with notepad file FFXIV.cfg
then change value in row 24 "ScreenMode" from 1 to 2
save changes & launch the game
