I'd be happy with trains actually.

Customization and butt sliders
Yoshi said at one point they may go longer than 4.5 before going on to 5.0... things is like to see tho is a major AI upgrade to field monsters so they feel more alive, weather and time of day effecting monster spawns.... I too was disappointed in the lack of purpose swimming has.. at least I was expecting monsters to fight on the sea floor... instead it just feels like a waste of space...

Combat while flying and swimming.

More detailed exploration. Airships and subs that act as mobile FC headquarters. Can move the FC ship/sub to a zone to get easy access to it after teleporting to the ship/sub (with the cheaper FC teleports). Maybe we can uhhh "borrow" one of those fancy Garlean ships to use as a FC base...
Also, instead of glorified ventures, we get a newly designed version of Diadem. A personal Eureka type zone for a FC 8-24 people, where they can harvest stuff.

Hopefully a shift back to open-world exploration. Swimming and Flying is good and all, but there's really no practical use for either of these. Flying isn't enabled for a map until after you unlock and complete all MSQ relevant to the map. Swimming was only unlocked after going to the Ruby Sea, and then you needed it to access exactly one location after the Ruby Sea map.
Like a completely seamless underground ruins of Gelmorra, they could excavate the entrance to it and have an actual exploration region, where the "boss room"'s are the only instanced part as trials. Right now it's implied that the Palace of the Dead deep dungeon is part of it. Such a dungeon would allow you to both fly and swim in it once you unlock the MSQ thing-a-ma-bob.
If we're heading to the actual Garlean empire area, their tech is easily somewhere between steam/clockwork and 1970's level of complexity, so it wouldn't be unreasonable to go into space and land on the remaining moon. The fact that the Allagan Empire went into space at all, at least leaves open the door that this is something doable.

If we do a timetravel expac I want it to be about Allag VS Meracydia. The fight against the actual bahamut. The triads unleashed. Tree people and centaurs against an army of robots and voidsent.
Second place would go to the three way battle between Amdaopr, Mhach and Nym.
Or just simply mounted combat.
Not to mention Elidibus having a base on the moon. Come to think of it, going to the moon is inevitable. Wether it happens NOW or later, is the question.

Hey, that gives me an idea. What if the Doman reconstruction is an early test for us creating temporary bases in regions that otherwise don't have em? Perhaps like garrisons in wow but without the sacreficing entire raid tiers part. Gonna build space stations. That could double as instanced housing. Two cloudkin with one stone.

More like a wish, but that'd be to do away with item levels altogether and finally start introducing interesting gear.
