Well back in early 2.0 my thoughts at the time were that each of the base jobs should have had 2 soulstone paths at 30 that followed different job roles like they did with Arcanist going into SCH and SMN but with HW they moved away with that on the new jobs. Granted those jobs weren't available to players starting a new character at lv 1 and could have been called "advanced" jobs due to it. However I think it could have atleast at that time helped with the dps queue times issue back then to a degree by essentially giving all DPS jobs a path or option to play and fill another role. It could have created issues with poorly equipped healer/tank though or having a healer/tank that isn't very good at playing the role so it wouldn't have been without its own drawbacks. It would have atleast presented players with an option though.

Heavesward job role distribution over playerbase didn't change too much that I recall because they released a new job for each role. However when Stormblood launched we only received 2 new DPS jobs. Due to this initially the ration shifted considerably to essentially an overpopulation of DPS players as people were trying out the new jobs which resulted in all the issues of DPS players complaining about 30+ minute queues for almost everything in duty finder until the newness of the new jobs wore off and the role distribution returned to what it was before SB.

Looking at the jobs we currently have there is a few things I think we could use to flesh out he job selection in general

Another tank that actually uses a shield. Currently at end game only PLD even makes use of that gear slot.
Tanks that deal either piercing, blunt, or magic damage primarily. Currently all 3 deal only slashing damage.
Another heavy melee DPS, Currently only DRG occupies this role and as such gets an armor class all to itself
Another dex based melee DPS, NIN currently is in the same situation as DRG in terms of armor.
Another DPS that deals blunt damage
A ranged physical DPS that doesn't deal piercing damage
A true magic damage melee DPS
A healer intended to be up front an in the mix rather than one that sits back and casts from the back row.

I've been wanting sub-classes to the current jobs for so long. Regardless of that want, seeing how SE handles balancing jobs like DRK (or tanks in general with crafted/tome accessories balancing...) makes me wonder just how well that would go over for FFXIV. I know it'd be depressing for me to have a sub-class for War only for War to still be better than the sub-class.

Adding them may not bring more players to the role...

But, not adding them year after year after year will certainly push some players from the role, perhaps the game all together...

Frankly I think, given how much the population grew, the ratio between tank, healer and dps cannot change much and increasing the number of jobs for the given role doesn't help much on change that ratio.

Players can be incentivate to the lesser used roles, but that's it. The reason I see being correct for wanting more tanks or healers, is not the change in overall ratio of the roles, but, more simply, to have a wider choice on that roles. As I said before, tanks and healers have just three options, but dps have a Whole nine options for the role: that is the thing I'd like see improved, giving tanks and healers more choices for the role they like.

It goes hand in hand. If Scholar was the only healer in the game, I never would've healed a single piece of content. It is my least favorite healer by far and I can't seem to feel comfortable playing it. But WHM and AST exist, and so I heal a fair bit. Will it make people abandon their dps mains and switch over? Probably not, I still main BLM. But giving people that one healer or tank job they actually enjoy means they're likely to play it even after they leveled it up. And that's a nudge in the right direction.

I think they should create less complicated tank/healer classes, let's face it we need more of them (tanks in particular) so making them simpler would encourage more to try them. I know some will go OMG!! they couldn't be more simple !! but frankly no class is "simple" anymore, and if they really were that easy for people, then we'd not have a shortage.

I'm still quite new but I disagree, the concept of tanking and healing is not complicated and I don't believe there is any reason to make them simpler. What makes them less desirable are people's attitudes towards the class' performance by a player. A lot rides on any tank or healer and it's how people react to mistakes made by tanks/healers puts them off playing.

So the saying goes, with great power comes responsibility; at the moment I believe that responsibility is outweighing the benefits of playing the class, especially when they could get put down and bad mouthed in every roulette (I know this is not likely the case in FCs and raids so much). As I said though, I'm still new and not even hit 50, could it really get that more complicated? As long as fight mechanics are known I don't think it will.

TL;DR - Tank and Healing does not need to be made simpler. Perceptions and bias' do.

In terms of the topic: I'd love to see a new Tank, there's so much talk of one so maybe 1 tank and 1 DPS would be kind

I'd bet we get two new melee dps, one sharing DRG armor and the other sharing NIN armor, since those are the only jobs that still have exclusive armor sets. Maybe Dancer for the scout, but no clue what the maimer would be.

Any extra besides that would be nice, but I'm not holding my hopes up...

I would actually be upset, the last thing we need is more dps. We have enough of that until 6.0

If we don't get a new Tank and Healer as the next new Jobs for 5.0 then I'd be extremely disappointed.

People don't like to Heal even less to Tank in MMORPGs so people think that those who Tank don't need more Jobs to do so (as per Yoshi P's statement that Tanks will still tank in 4.0), well no.
It'll depend on how much they'll add to the current Tanks, tweak and change them to please the existing, yet slightly drying, Tank population.

Also if we get 2 new DPS ... well it'll be fun time waiting for a queue.

I really wish we'll get a new Tank&Healer, the current ones deserve to get something new too, not just DPS.
