But you don't have to play an alt. You can still Greed on your main. You only lost the chance if someone actually on that class was in the party so they could Need. A fair trade, in my eyes.

I think it was some people then felt obligated to go on that alt to roll need on the gear they wanted and the alt being less geared was a loss of efficiency for that player when they could of used their main which was more geared.

That was the perception a player was pushing in the other thread before the change dropped. A few google translates of the current state of the Japanese forums shows most players aren't actually as happy with this as that one player or the developers seemed to believe. Most are just as confused as we are.

In the spirit of being semi-open minded, I did go ahead and try it. My first run through however did nothing to change my mind about how awful this is going to feel. First of all, seeing as almost the entire group was new, it was a mess for both me and the other white mage I was co-healing with. Every fight it was a frantic game of trying to keep each other alive so we could not only help raise our entire alliance from the ground two to three times a boss, but also to help raise the other alliance healers when they both went down. It might have at least felt a challenge worth the reward when finally on the last boss a pair of healer gloves dropped. Guess what though, neither I or the other White Mage roll high enough and they end up going to a Red Mage who spent most of the run eating ground.
As someone who A. Levels other classes on actual different characters and therefore is only there to gear the Job I'm actively participating as and B. wouldn't roll on job gear I wasn't playing as in an all greed situation anyway, I was more than a little ticked off. Ticked off enough that if it happens again before the last boss, I'd be very, very tempted to stop paying any attention to the person who did it. You die after stealing healer gear while on a DPS job? I hope you figure out a way to bring yourself back to life. Have a nice day.

Now that I tried it and I didn't really like it didn't get what I wanted cause of it had to settle for something else.
I don't care about it being 'all greed'... 24man raids are just for glamour, and quite frankly Rabanastre has had very underwhelming armor models thus far.
Its not just glamour for everyone. If you dont gear up the whole time, those piece may help you, even on your main character. Also if it was truly just for glamour, why would they even need to change it?
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
No 24 man raids are not just for glamour. They are mainly to gear people up who don't have a ton of tomes or savage gear, like new or returning players.
Unless you are doing Savage the current EX dungeon gear will be sufficient to reasonably catch up. This game does not require the top ilv for the majority of content.

You know that 24 man gear is also often BiS until you get savage stuff, right? If the 24 man gear would be only for glamour it wouldn't have these stats and ilvl because glamour doesn't need to have that.
And on top of that returning and new players need better gear if they want to start raiding than the "awesome" EX dungeon crap.
