    Regarding Arcanima [4.3 spoilers]

So I'm very happy with the way the story is developing in 4.3. Not only were our suspicions about an ascian possessing Zenos' body (I suspect its Elidibus specifically) but we got a nice little insight into Arcanima as a whole with Alphinaud (sorry Tataru you need to study more).

My main point is that we discover that Ruin 3 is infact not specifically a Summoner ability but in fact an advanced form of Aranima due to the fact that Alphy can cast Ruin 3 without the need of a soul stone.

I know its nothing major per se but I really enjoy little looks into the inner workings of magic in this game.

I also took a little screen cap because I was so excited to play as another character in a solo instance for once

    Nabriales is deader than Lahabrea....

And Alphinaud, I'm fairly sure, has been casting Ruin III for quite some time in solo instances and the like.

I think it's often forgotten that summoning, as it exists in the Seventh Astral Era, is really no more than an adaptation of surviving snippets of the original Allagan art to the modern discipline of arcanima. So, in that regard, I don't see it as unusual for Alphinaud to cast Ruin III.

Do recall that arcanima is specifically the application of arcane geometry to manipulate the aether in objects. The applications of arcanima are wide and diverse. They include the creation of magical barriers, such as the massive paling set up around Alexander back in Heavensward.

With regard to modern summoning, Y'mhitra theorised that arcanima was best suited for the summoning of egi, as the discipline was already widely used to shape aether into carbuncles. Hence, the extension of the art to modern summoning.

Alphinaud knowing Ruin III especially makes sense if you take the Summoner Quests into account. Y'mhitra publishes her paper on Summoning (the paper you did all the practical research for) after the Lvl. 60 quest. Given that both her and Alphinaud are Sharlayans, he has almost certainly read it (especially if you provided data for it!) and is a skilled enough Arcanist to be able to pull the non-egi based spells off.

    Summoner/Anarchist Headcannon and math/programing/hacking counterparts...

I'd imagine knowing Allagan Arcanima vs Normal Arcanima is like knowing Calculus vs Simple Arithmetic. In most situations, you really don't need all the fancy math Calculus has in it, but when you really want to figure out the area under that complex curve, you really need to know how to take its integral. In the same way, you really only need the Summoning part of Summoning to deal with eikons and make egi. Everything else can be used for "normal" enemies and does not need an egi to do.

An egi is basically a robot that was programed with computer code stolen from someone else's computer. Unfortunately, the computer code is written in a language you and your fellow programmers don't know and it can't be copied onto other computers. The only way to get the code on your computer is to get hacked by the enemy computer first and then steal the code from it all without the enemy computer taking control of your computer.

Ruin IV is a program that your own computer isn't powerful enough to run by itself, so you let the robot do some pre-program computing for you. When the robot's computing is done, it gives your computer the data and you run the actual program from that data. Unfortunately, the time the robot takes to run the pre-program tends to vary...

Dreadwyrm Trance on the other hand... that's when you decide that while some math problems work okay in Euclidean Space, they would really work much better in Hyperbolic Space. So you make the rules of Hyperbolic Space apply to you for a short time. Going back into Euclidean Space is always... volatile...
