Sometimes I wonder,
If other people ,are robots that haven't quite
finished learning how to emulate humans ? (sarcasm)
"We here at Square Enix noticed people are running the new 24 man. That means everyone loved the greed only system, so we're removing need from the game entirely."
-SE Maybe
When the dev team had to explain why they choose to remove the "need" option on 24-man raids, they told us that 24-man raid were supposed to help gearing up sub classes, but because of the ilvl requirement, they would not be able to queue for the raid.
We'll start from that statement :
Ridorana is currently locked behing a ilvl335 requirement in a patch area where we have ilvl 350 to 370 available.
As an irregular patch, 4.3 removed the weekly lockout from Sigmascape NM, raids that allow you to exchange pieces for the gear you want (whatever the class). So you can run those with your main class in order to get ilvl350 gear.
- Old tomestone gears are ilvl 330 => 340. By spending some, earned thanks to dailies roulettes and running Rabanastre which by the drop 330 gears too.
- Byakko drop 355 weapon and got the Echo with that patch.
- If Byakko is too hard to get the weapon, you still have Susano. Only ilvl320 indeed, but if only your weapon is a problem, but you have good ilvl on the rest, it's okay to increase your ilvl.
- The current new dungeon drop ilvl345 full set (except the weapon).
- Not the most affordable way but still exist, crafted gear with a ilvl350 and now can be upgraded to 360.
- Eureka and its relic. Need some time to get, but you can get ilvl350 left pieces from it.
- Mendacity tomestone for ilvl 360.
- If you had the time to raid before, ilvl 370.
Irregulars patches are known as "catch-up" patches. You may have made a break for any reason. So you might make part of those people who were waiting for that patch to maybe be able to get better gear for your main job.
Why did I list almost every possible way we currently have to get gear?
Because, 24-man raid only drop one piece per week. While it's indeed a good way to gear up some sub-classes, if you currently can't afford getting a ilvl335 to get in, you'll still earn time doing any other kind of content I listed to raise your ilvl, like for example, thx to sigmascape. Because first, you need the gear you want to drop, and secondly, you have to make a good roll and pray no one else is interested.
To conclude, while they though it would be a good idea to do that, it's not because of every factor you have to consider.
Besides, what makes you need to gear up a sub-class ? What content do you want to run with to feel the need of having a "greed only" in. Like I said, Ridorana is only ilvl335. If you wouldn't be able to queue for it because of low ilvl with that class, somethings wrong with all those many possibilites you have. And if you aren't even going to play it in like Extreme or Savage content where you need to have more HP and brute force to be able to deal with the enrage and survive mechanics, then there's no need for you to quickly get those gear. In general, "casual content" has really low ilvl requirement and there's a reason for that.
If you can't be ilvl 335 with a sub class to run Ridorana today, getting one ilvl360 won't make you jump from 290 to 350.
If we had a possible way for everyone to be sure to get what they are running Ridorana for, maybe it would have been a good idea. But when you know RNG is able to make drop two times those same shitty boots from X class that nobody wants and you'll need to literraly "farm" a very long raid in a short window of 1 week (if you can't play a lot, that won't help), then you'd better just run expert roulette and sigmascape if you want to get good ilvl for your sub classes.
So the greed option isn't working as intended and is a bad idea.
