I have been having this problem since patch 4.2 - when I enter certain cutscenes (and also noticed it happen with RDM LB3 animation yesterday) the game suddenly becomes very choppy and freezes/goes to ridiculously low FPS for the duration of whatever animation or scene is playing out - It never totally crashes the game, and does eventually get to the end of the animation/cutscene but it makes the scenes totally unwatchable.
I thought it might just be a problem with FF itself with 4.2 after trying a number of things and hoped it would be fixed by 4.3 but no joy after playing yesterday/today.
Notes for the problem:
- I have no problems on any other game - only FFXIV
- I originally thought it might be due to some recent graphical updates, I put all the settings from Maximum down to minimum as a test - no difference
- Tried in windowed/full screen etc - no difference
- Tried DX9 vs DX11 - no difference
- Saw a couple of similar threads where an uninstall/reinstall of FFXIV was recommended so I did this and removed (including all of the files generated in "my documents" too - no difference after 90 mins reinstall and trying different graphics settings/DX9/DX11 etc etc again.
- Checked that I had latest WIN10 64-Bit graphics driver for a GTX 980, already had the latest driver and have no options to roll back, so as an extra precaution I uninstalled all Nvidia drivers and software then reinstalled just to make sure - no difference
Frankly i'm now at a loss
The GTX980 blows FFXIV's graphical requirements out of the water on Max settings and always has done even with the improvements they added in 4.0, but as the test above suggests where I reduced all graphics to minimum and it still didn't work; not to mention I am using other games with much higher graphical demands with no problems; I can only conclude something has gone wrong in the background that is affecting perhaps some Nvdia graphics card users??
