Script error in launcher after patch update

Hello all, I am having an IE script error in the launcher since the update.

I tried all the suggestions in the previously linked thread, but it didn't work for me. I also tried release/renewing the IP address and switching DNS servers.

I am on a PC running windows XP on a wired connection. It seems to be a security mismatch error or something like that.

    This is the error message:

For users with up to date OS it seems clearing IE cache or following other steps from a previous ticket solved this issue, but not for me. If anyone has any ideas for a fix, please let me know.

Also if this issue will not be fixed due to cache clear not working on only XP, I would be very grateful for an official mod response.

It's possible you get that cause Windows XP is ancient and that OS support is only given up to IE8, imo...at the minimum, people should be using Win 7 if possible, and on IE11.

I had the same issue you did, and like you the launcher still wouldn't work even after clearing IE's cache etc. After some searching back through the forum, I discovered the solution to my problem was to go to the My Documents folder, and then 'My Games' and 'Final Fantasy A Realm Reborn'.

In the FFXIV ARR folder found in My Documents/My Games, click on the ffxivboot.cfg file (it should open as a text document in Notepad), and carefully change the number after the 'Browser type' entry to '2' (for me it was set as 0, which was a giveaway something was wrong with it). Then click File, and then Save. The FFXIV launcher should now work.

Good morning and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

It should be noted that Windows XP is not a supported Operating System, so you may run into problems that you normally wouldn't.

The Windows XP version of the Internet Explorer launcher may look a bit different, but try to find these setting:

Open the Internet Explorer browser, open the "Tools", go to "Internet Options" and adjust the following settings:
    - Under the "General" tab, please delete ALL browser history.
    - Under the "Security" tab, please move the slider to the lowest possible settings or no higher than "Medium"
    - Under the "Privacy" tab, please move the slider to the lowest possible settings or to "Allow All Cookies"
    - Under the "Advanced" tab, please make sure that "Allow software to run or install even if signature is invalid" is CHECKED.
    - Make sure that all SSL and TLS (EXCEPT SSL 3.0) are CHECKED. [SSL 3.0 should be UNCHECKED]
    - Hit "Apply" to save the settings, and then "OK, to close the Internet Options menu.
    - Right-Click on the FFXIV launcher icon and select "Properties"
    - Go to the "Compatibility" tab, and change the compatibility mode to "Windows 7"
    - Hit "Apply", then "OK" to save the changes.
    - Please RESTART your PC now. Once your PC has been restarted, Right-Click the FFXIV launcher icon once more and select "Run as Administrator"

If this has been done and you still have the issue, you may want to reinstall the game (and make sure to delete the FFXIV files in the My Documents folder as well).

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

Thanks so much for your help!

Unfortunately, none of these steps worked for me. It seems as though I will have to finally upgrade to windows 10. Other XP holdouts, take note. I know it's time and I expect it should work fine after that, just sucks that I gotta spend some $$/I'm gonna miss preseason for Feast!

    Thanks again!

I know I said I was giving up but I have to wait to get windows 10 anyway, so...

Here's the new error message after trying all the above steps:

"A system error has occurred: -2146697211.
    HTTPS System Error"

    Other things I tried:
    flushdns
    whitelisting the launcher url
    disabling antivirus
