Right, so it goes like this.

It's my first time doing the content, a cutscene comes up...and the rest of the party demands that i "SKIP SO WE CAN GO FASTAH!"

So i do as they demand...and then we have a problem, because i refuse to do any content until i have watched all preceding cutscenes.

This leads me to just stand there, AFKing and letting the wipe happen. And if they retry, same thing happens.

On the one hand i could just leave, but that leads to the 30-minute lockout, which doesn't happen if i get kicked instead, preventing me from requeing right away and hopefully getting a party that won't harass me into skipping this time.

So i just stand around and waste their time by not doing anything until they boot me, explaining to them my stance on not doing content until i have seen the cutscenes if they yell at me over it, telling them that kicking me is actually doing me a favor and that them losing far more time than if they had just let me watch the cutscene is of their own doing.
I essentially tell them that if they were trying to save time then they really shot themselves in the foot there.
I'm all "See what happens when you won't let the new guy have the full experience? This is on you, nice going"

    Two things here.

    (1) People being overly rigid and insisting on watching lengthy cutscenes in-dungeon rather than after the fact are being selfish jackasses.
    (2) People who are being overly impatient and insisting on others skipping cutscenes to run content faster are being selfish jackasses.

This is a case of everyone being a selfish jackass. The solution, therefore, is not to empower one group over the other: it is for SE to remove the scenario entirely. Mid-dungeon cutscenes are one of the dumbest ideas on the planet, precisely because they lead to this sort of conflict. They worked in FFXI because the instanced content there wasn't built to be spammed, and because parties were formed via the equivalent of PF, not DF. They do not work in FFXIV. So rather than try to call out one side or the other as the bigger bunch of jackasses, let's just petition for SE to remove this ridiculously stupid component from all future content and, preferably, strip it out from past content as well (split it up between pre-dungeon and post-dungeon quest cutscenes; frame it as a 'recollection of events' or some such, I don't care).

    Edit / Addition:

Yeah, no, this one's on you. What sort of person takes a sort of perverse joy in being deceptive and screwing with people? Really? Particularly since, unless you've got literally the entire group clamouring for you to skip cutscenes (a virtually unheard-of scenario), you're also causing a significant amount of collateral damage for people who don't hold an opinion one way or another. This sort of behaviour is a Grade A example of (1) above.

    Jackassery is contagious.

Be exposed to it long enough, and eventually you snap and return fire.
At least that's what happened with me.

So yes, i'm a jackass, of the kind that gives people what they want in the worst possible way out of sheer spite.
"If you can, then so can i" it goes.
Reactionary jackassery is very much a thing in my case.

    And then everybody loses.

Also, the one time i DID try to do the fight even after being forced to skip the cutscene didn't work out either.
I was to busy being confused at the lack of context regarding the current situation, which got me killed and wiped the group regardless.
Cue the screaming and hurling of abuse in my direction, with no regard for the fact that it was a direct consequence of making me skip the cutscene, thus losing out on context and leading me to try to make sense of the situation from a lore perspective instead of paying attention to the boss...oops.
There was no winning that one.
    OCD flare ups are lethal.

After that i just defaulted to not even bothering.
I mean, if i watch the cutscene i get kicked.
If i don't watch the cutscene everything goes to hell anyway.
Okay then, if i'm getting screwed over no matter what then i might as well try to inconvenience them in return, the hurling of abuse is gonna happen regardless.

I'm so glad that I've leveled a tank and healer. it's so satisfying to team up with a friend tank or healer and just sit down to wait for the new players to watch their scenes, while the impatient players bitch and whine. Have fun being assholes when you don't have tanks.

The unskippable cut scenes in msq roul are great. They crack me up. I think I do msq roul /more/ now. I just chat on discord or work on a handheld or something if I don't want to rewatch. XD

There's no reason for players to be forced to skip the story. Bullying them to do so with shitty excuses like "you can watch in the inn" is pathetic.

That is your opinion, which does not mirror mine. To say it isn't true implies you have actual empirical data that supports you case. Would you mind linking to it so I can review it?

I actually think this game's community is more toxic than WoW's because of what I consider toxic. You and I likely have very different definitions of what we consider toxic.
