How it is now won't step foot in alliance raid. Already have very hard time winning one item that I needed and now they make it even harder. No thanks if they change it back then I will run them again.

Why was this even a thing? I don't get it! I now can't get upgrades anymore because everyone is greeding even when they don't have that job unlocked. Thanks SE, you've ruined alliance raiding.
Gaius van Baelsar: Nor is this unknown to your masters. Which prompts the question: what came first, the chicken or the egg?
People are still going to have to compete against the "One-Item a week" lock. So that should hopefully help with your endeavor to upgrade. Maybe...
Honestly I hate the new loot rule system. I've ran the new alliance raid and got beat a few times for the drg gear meanwhile I was the only drg in that party. They really need to go back to utilizing the old system in loot drops. If you want the particular gear for a role then play that role its not a hard concept to grasp.
I have an alt character that is only a healer, I have tried to gear her up fairly but just now I ran the older 24 man Rabanaster for gear she could use so that she could unlock Sigmascape. 2 healer upgrades drop, I ask the party to please allow me to have them as they are direct upgrades that I could wear right at this moment. I roll low and do not get either and still am locked out of Sigmascape. How is this fair for new players who will have to go through this same experience? The upgrades dropped. I asked kindly and not harshly but still was unable to obtain the gear. I literally cannot progress forward on this alt character. It's insanely frustrating to see the gear just go away like that because I had a 1/8 change to obtain it even after the other healer said, they didn't need it. Is this what new players are going to have to look forward to? Fighting others for gear to simply move forward? How is this the proposed catch up mechanic that was so widely boasted?
I have to say, this is kinda the only change I can remember that really seems like a step backward to me. Sure, it makes the loot distribution more "fair" for the group, but it destroys an individual player's chances at getting a loot piece they might be needing. Up until now, if you needed specific role gear, or wanted a specific glamour, (unless your group happened to match 4 of the same DPS as you) if that loot dropped, you can most likely get it. Now, not only do you have to play the odds of the loot dropping, and rolling against other players in your role, but now everyone wanting to trade that gear for GC seals.
Imagine if this was applied to the EX Primals or something. "Oh good, the WHM weapon dropped. Well, that's a great upgrade for me, and- Oh, the SAM won the Greed role."
At this point, why not just make the chests drop the gear into a random player's inventory, like the potion drops.

While the weekly lockout is in place, it's not such a big deal. People aren't going to waste their one item limit rolling on anything, you go in usually with a specific piece or set in mind. Realistically you're only going to be rolling against maybe one or two other people on any given run.
But the fact that the Greed Only rule applies even on old raids where there is no loot limit, is asinine. The only real value of this gear is glamour, and getting it is hard enough even when you can roll need. Having to roll against people who will roll just because they can and then vendor the gear or turn it in for GC seals is disgusting. As someone who tries to get stuff like the Triple Triad cards, orchestrion rolls and minions from alliance raids, I know that people will roll on ANYTHING if you give them the ability to, regardless of whether they even want the item. If nothing else, need should be brought back for the old raids and when the loot limits are lifted.
This change was so short-sighted it's baffling. No one was asking for this. No one I know likes it. I get the reasoning for it, but I don't buy it. If you're going to have job-specific gear as random drops, people who are actively playing and using the corresponding job should get priority. There are already several ways to gear up jobs without playing them, that don't infringe on the basic, intuitively understood, and necessary rule of Need over Greed. No one wants to lose loot they've been hunting for to someone who may not even use it, or who may not even WANT it. The thought alone is repulsive.
Don't be stubborn on this one, guys. Change it back.
In theory, that is what people would do. The problem is that under FF14's system, most people are not just playing one class. More people are likely to have 2 or more classes, which means they will not just be rolling for their own gear. While the weekly lockout is in place, it's not such a big deal. Another reason is that they are used to rolling greed because the people who play the class will roll need anyways.
But it doesn't really matter whether they are rolling for another job because they're still limited to 1 piece a week. If they're going in as a DPS to roll on tank gear or something, then they're giving up their ability to roll on DPS gear. And besides that, they might be looking for a different exact piece. Even if a few people are going in for the same set, one might go for the chest while the other is going for the legs. The odds that all 8 people in the party, or even half the party, are all targeting the exact same piece of gear, are pretty low. Yeah you might have to roll against one or two more people than you're used to, but that's far from unmanageable. It's not a good change by any means, but where the weekly loot limit is in place, it's hardly "the sky is falling, my life is over" either. In theory, that is what people would do. Then by doing that they're locking themselves out of any other gear for the rest of the run and the week. When there's no weekly limit, I agree, it's an awful change because people will roll on things just because they can. But if people are just insta-rolling on stuff with a weekly limit because they are impatient or incapable of thought or whatever, then they're just going to end up with a belt or something from the first boss every week, because everyone else is passing while waiting for the piece they actually want, and then they won't be able to roll on anything else for the rest of the run, effectively eliminating themselves as competition. Again there's 7 sets of gear each with 6 pieces, so the chances of 3+ people going for the exact same piece in the same run is low. You’d be surprised. There are a lot of people that get tired of waiting for their desired piece, and just roll on whatever drops that looks like an upgrade. There are also people who just roll on everything and take whatever they want instead of waiting for a drop. And people that roll on things for glamour despite them being an upgrade for someone else. Greed Only + Weekly Lockout makes all of these scenarios even worse.
