    New alliance loot rules discussion

Do you like it Do you hate It? Now that they are out and had the chance to experience the new loot system first hand should it stay or go?

In my 3 runs of the light house there was nothing but infighting.
I think the greed only system broke a lot of things already fixed and should be put back the way it was. If you want the gear you play the class

Didn't have any fighting over gear in my two runs in the chat but it's a bad system.

In general, I agree with this.

However, the greed only system has the benefit of allowing people to play on their most geared, most skilled jobs, and still have an equal opportunity to get the gear they want. And given the mechanics in the new raid, this is far better than having people on lesser geared jobs, attempting to reconcile mechanics with rotations that they might not yet have on autopilot.

The only problem with this, though, is many people have a comfort job that they main. For me, I love tanking, because being a meat shield makes me happy. I love the way tank classes feel and operate, and I want to be able to be the best tank I can for my party. When someone has the same opportunity as I do to get tank gear, when most of the time they don't play tank, it just puts me behind on being optimal, and makes it harder for me to run as a benefit to my party/alliance. There's no real benefit to having the Greed-only rule, except to give players who may never use the gear the same opportunity as the people who rely on it to be better to get it.

Equal opportunity is when healers had a 50% chance of getting guaranteed loot. Having something like a 1/8 chance is not equal opportunity.

And if you don't want to go in with a job you don't play, don't even worry about gearing it up, you're probably not playing it regardless of item level anyways.

My general is if you want gear for the class, play that class. Aside from that, it's totally runnable at min ilevel, especially as everyone gets used to the mechs and becomes even further geared so tbh it all evens out. Shout out to all the fresh AF3 geared peeps that had relatively smooth runs in rabanastre

And honestly after just off tanking this and watching the main tank and my two close friend healers, this new raid is not worth those super tough positions if someone is just gonna loot and leave with their tank or healer gear like we had all run.

Everyone here seems to agree "If you want to gear that class, play that class." However, I'd like to add something onto this. Not only should that be a general thing, but it should also be said that if you really want to gear and play this class, playing the class to gear it is perfectly a way to get practice in on it. Even if you aren't the best, practicing (especially DPS classes) you can get gear for it.

Howver, I'll also point out that this also makes getting tank gear better because you don't have to sit through a long queue to get gear for a class. Now, I'm not sure if it's still that long since they added the Alliance Raid Roulette, but it's definitely something to factor in seeing as there's 3 tank slots among 24 people, with 6 healers and 15 DPS.

And then the there's also the fact that this also then means people are discouraged from playing tank to get tank gear so... I guess that's something else to factor in.

    Healers had 50/50 chance.
    Tanks had exclusive rights.
DPS were pot luck, could be 1/5.

This system is objectively more fair, everyone has an equal chance of getting anything.
    'Need' is ultimately a privilege.

Due to the loot lock out, you're not going to be rolling on gear you're not actually going to use anyway. This just allows you to play as any class, rather than forcing you to play as a certain class in order to get certain gear.
Now if you're trying to gear a dps, you don't have to sit through godawful queues.

There are already like 3 new pages on the big thread about this in General Discussion describing instances of people with 0 leveled classes rolling on items. So yeah, people will do it just to get some piece of gear and not have to go back again that week. And there are apparently a lot of people rolling on Vaan's outfit.

The loot lock out is the largest factor here.
There might be 8 others players in your party, but there are 7 different gear sets, and everyone will only be after one or maybe two at any given time. You're not rolling against 7 other people, statistically you'll only be rolling against one other person on average.

The backlash against this seems to be paranoia, that "everyone is going to take my loot from me" mentality.
