Thank you SE for audio CUES. Please give us more!

One thing I absolutely hated about FFXIV compared to Warcraft was the utter lack of audio cues to indicate abilities. I'm not looking for cheat programs to 'call out' when to move and such. I'm asking for an audio cue to augment a text cue. I hate reading my text log to know when a boss is doing something. I think it's terribly immersion breaking to expect a high-action encounter to rely on your ability to read text.

Thanks to the Lighthouse's last boss for finally having at least one boss in this game that announces all of his abilities.

I mean, Leviathan 2.0 has audio cues from where the water is coming from. Ultimate bahamut has sound in the direction of where divebombs will be. Pretty sure in a8s you could hear the chakrams land.

There's a lot of fights with audio clues, that's just a couple I can think of right now.

In the Kefka fight you could listen for the Tower as to when you need to look towards it or away, the noises are different for each.

I just think that every fight should have obvious audio-cues. 90% of WoW bosses, even in casual duties, have fully voiced over dialogue lines that are tied to their abilities. I feel that if WoW can afford to add all that extra audio into their encounters to make them more complete then FFXIV could. There's not a single WoW fight that's 'just text dialog' without an accompanying sound file.

WoW is willing to spend more money into their development too. A fully voiced boss for the entire duration of the fight is more to pay for the sound actors.

Even though XIV has such a huge cashop with the entire RP community waving their visa cards for fantasia potions every other day which no doubt generates a big income, I think it's safe to say a lot of that money goes to Square Enix itself for their other games.

Just take a look at the #serverlimitations.

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Um...The bosses have just a few lines each though. And honestly, I don't think they need to pick new voice actors for every boss. Heck, some random people from the studio could pretty decently give a one-liner here or there with acceptable quality. It's not like most of them need any in-depth knowledge of how to convey specific emotions or anything.

Also a loud "click" noise that can be turned off to signal when a person should read the chat would be a middle-ground. The point is, there is a LOT of stuff to look out for during the fights and it's not immediately apparent when the text that pops up is new or not when you just glance over there. And some players are slow readers.

A lot of bosses have a bunch of queues that force you to pay attention to certain things. My favorite example of this is during Shiva EX, you have to LITERALLY watch what weapon she takes out towards the end of the fight, and react accordingly. It's also why I loved the Quasar mechanic in Sophia, and why Zurvan's Soar pattern was so fun. Even if the game tells you it's coming, you still have to take it in and figure it out.

In WoW, they literally tell you where to go and what to do at times. Some people might like this, but I totally hate it. Audio queues are fine, but let us at least figure stuff out. I remember one dungeon in WoW where the everyone died in the last boss because they weren't expecting a certain mechanic, and the game didn't warn you about it either. And I loved it. I wish dungeons in FFXIV had wipe mechanics like this. I was really really hoping the fight with Zenos would have ended up being this really challenging fight, but nope. :c

I just can't believe these "Voice actors are expencive". They are not. Period.
SquareEnix does not need to hire the most expencive ones, there are plenty of voice actors world wide, and it's surely cheaper than animators and designers.
They give such a important spot for Nabuo Uematsu and his songs, but voice acting is flat incomplete in this game. Voice is such an important thing.
I'm sure every new players first think when starting the game "what? no voice acting? that's lame, oh well...". That was mine, and the same for my friends.
FFXIV players keep increasing, but I feel that the content income is not proportional to it.
