    HoH's story vs. PotD's story

    HoH's story felt a lot less messier then PoTD's did. PoTD is just a Gelmoran ruin that goes somewhere bizarre. It doesn't even have any interesting lore about the Gelmorans, who are a civilization we know next to nothing about. It's pretty much the average "necromancer is raising people to beat death, so we need to stop him" story.

    HoH has a lot more implications for other lore topics and it does give us information about things we didn't know. The Imperials not taking over the Ruby Sea is a lot more important in hind-sight; them getting control of HoH and the post-Allagan tech in it would have been bad. It also gives us another organization that is researching the Allagans, but with very different motivations then the Sharlayans or the Ironworks. The Onishishu are the ones who maintain Othard's aetherites and they're the ones who have been maintaining HoH. They don't seem to have "WTF were the Allagans doing?!? This is so wrong and shouldn't exist!" attitude.

    As for their founder, he makes it sound like he and his friends knew that more Umbral Calamities were coming after the 4th one. And that there'd be people who would be fighting to prevent/help mitigate them. He also specifically mentions that what happened to Allag could have happened everywhere and that the reason why it didn't was because his friends scarified themselves to prevent it. Given what did happen to Allaga... yikes...

    Oh, and Rasho is a badass. He's soloed Floors 1 - 50.

    I'm not entirely sure why the Confederacy and Onishishu had us go through it. The tower is functioning perfectly and such...

    Anyway, uh... so, there's a cabal of Allagan descendants / fans who want to safeguard Allag's technology for future generations. That's... interesting, I suppose, though I would as always argue caution. One need only look at Garlemald's missteps with Allagan tech to see why messing with it is a bad idea more often than not... though given the Onishishu were formed after Allag's fall from grace their brazenness was likely tempered. There's a big difference between a microwave and blasting people with electromagnetic radiation, even though they function on the same principle...

    Why they gotta lock the new hairstyles behind a long grind / random drop? It's like how I want a Brave Ike to finally give Zelgius Steady Breath instead of Warding, but I keep getting Legendary Hector...

    Hildibrand was a good time as usual, and like others I expect Jim to bump into Greg in the (relatively) near future.

    The problem is that they already said that we wont get further floors for HoH. So either this is for something really far in the future or they just needed something for it.

    @Cilia:

    Wasnt it stated that they are sending people through this to get people that are good enough at fighting so that there is someone that can stop some kind of catastrophy that somehow was already forseen a long long time ago but seemingly did not start even after all the bad stuff that happened around the world. (Also even the best fighter can make a mistake so they are kinda risking the worlds safety with their training ground.

    HoH Discussion stuff

    There's a prophecy from who knows when that's brought up by Urianger in 1.0 that talks about their being more then 6 Umbral Calamities. Most people since the 6th Umbral Calamity discounted it since there'd been six Calamties, one for every element which was nice and neat. Obviously, that's not what happened. The Calamites just keep coming. It looks like the knowledge of there being future Calamities goes back a long ways.

    Part of the reason the Onishishu are even there to begin with is because there has always been people who try to stop Calamities from happening or mitigate the worst of the effects. The Onishishu are offshoots of what looks like to be good contenders of the 4th Calamity's Warrior of Lights, or at the very least, people who probably had the Echo. Their way of paying homage to past and future WoLs is to give them a good place to train that didn't come out of some aweful circumstances. Like, most of the "getting stronger" the WoL has done has been though stopping bad event from happening. This is pretty much the opposite and is one of the few glorified practice halls that are supposed to be practice halls.

    It's mentioned that fighters who aren't found worthy by Hiruko, the Lvl 30 boss are killed by it. The fact that you, the WoL are alive means you passed the test. So have all the leaders of the Confederacy. Presumably it's there to make sure all the fighters that don't agree with the morals of the Onishishu don't ever leave the tower.

    BTW, does someone want to make a dedicated HoH lore thread so we don't have to keep spoiler-tagging stuff?

    I'm calling it now, potential expansion where we go back in time during the time of the allag and
    The prophecy will be about us, since prophecies are self-fulfilling and all of that. It's been done so many times that I don't think we won't do it

    @Obsidianflare gdi great finding about Rasho

    @ObsidianFire: Not sure if there is that much to discuss to have its own thread.

    About your points:

    The problem with that is, that someone could have started out weak and with lots of training could have become a strong warrior. If we went into this at the start of our adventure (and we did not know that this was a training ground, so we were talked into this without the whole information) or even after we did some good stuff in Eorzea we might have been killed. Yet this would have meant that the planet would have lost its last defence. So I find it a bit strange that this is a test with murder at the end if you dont pass it. Maybe have it test you and if you lose, it will keep you alive but you need to train more to get further or are not just hero material right now.

    Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
    Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
    A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

    I have to admit, the whole "for those who come after" line from the hologram had me rolling my eyes for a bit...might as well read the script in front of us, hologram guy totally not fortelling our arrival...
    Makes me wonder if the Gelmorrans w (ere also part of the same brotherhood that just didn't get the help they needed to keep the POTD out of the wrong hands. It would be a lovely bit of Duskwight lore if true. (Pomanders are a Duskwight invention, after all.)

    I'm not strong on gelmorran lore tbh, but could be possible, tbh I'm kinda expecting moose to shed some lights. Though the setup feelings for story in the future are strong in this one

    @alleo
    That's why I think we will go back in time that and we'll have a hand in creating the prophecy, prophecy are usually used in the trope of selfulfillment and honestly that is SE MO for prophecies.

    Gelmora isn't that old. It came into existence around the year 740 of the 6th Astral Era, so it's only been around for a thousand years. For comparison, the nation of Ishgard is older.

    HoH was probably built in the late 4th Umbra Era/early 5th Astral Era. And there's very little chance it could have a counterpart in Eorzea. Almost nothing of Allagan origin is known to have survived of the 5th Astral Era in Eorzea as the records that do exist indicate that people actively shunned anything to do with the pursuit of knowledge. It got to the point that people weren't taught to read on purpose, the few surviving Allagan ruins were destroyed, science was essentially banned and the people in power invented an entire new alphabet for themselves. No wonder the founder of the Onishishu went to Othard.

    Speaking of the Onishishu, the sightseeing log mentions them. It specifically says they're the ones who create and maintain all the Atherytes in Hingashi and that they have the reputation of skilled craftsman who guard their secrets...
