I'm not a writer, but I am working on developing my characters story. The key point is; she is supposed to be the daughter of Rinoa and Squall from FF8. I promise to update a response here when I have a fair amount of time to actually get something decent laid out and written.

I'm an aspiring writer and I made a backstory for both my main and alt. Hopefully, they're not too difficult to follow.

    Lucienne Beauvilliers

Lucienne was a nameless Roegadyn child, found outside the Steps of Faith. She was adopted to The House of Beauvilliers, one of the upper classes of Ishgard. This is why she perplexes others with her Elezen name. One of the most notable things about her was her curiosity and desire for learning.

As a teenager, her Roegadyn strength was deemed valuable and she served in the Dragonsong War. She brought the deaths of countless dragons. In her early 20s, she laid down her lance and retired from the Temple Knights. The magical elements from the dragons were fascinating to her, despite how often she killed them. What exactly is magic and how does it work? She soon learned of the Sharlayan nation via the Astrologian Guild and of their specialty in the magical arts. Her first taste of adventure was her trek to Sharlayan, where she spent many years studying magic. It wouldn't be until her early thirties, when she would return to Eorzea. Limsa Lominsa was her first stop, seeking knowledge of the arcane arts from arcanists. She couldn't miss the chance to use magic from grimores. The desire to master all forms of magical arts was insatiable.

Magic was not her only skill and passion, however. Lucienne also excelled at finding valuable items in the world and then crafting them into works of art. Adventuring had become quite profitable for her. It was, however, difficult to get all the items she needed. A little bit of help would be welcome. While gathering in the South Shourd, she encountered a young Hellsguard Roegadyn named Nita Lee. The girl sought to have a life of adventure, not wanting to return to her eventual life on the farm. That's when Lucienne presented a proposition: she could hire the girl as a retainer to gather more materials. It would also give her a chance to become an adventurer, like herself. The two agreed, Lucienne suggesting the puglist guild in Ul'dah as a good starting point. The two shook hands in agreement.

As an adventurer, Lucienne could live the life she found fulfilling.

"What's the point of a life, if you're not willing to take risks? Take my advice and just do it! And if you regret the outcome, well, at least you've gained experience. Such, is the will of the world." -Lucienne Beauvilliers

    Nita Lee

Born within the woodlands of the Black Shroud, Nita Lee lived on a farmland within the southern valleys. She is the oldest of 11 children and harnessed unnatural physical strength. She used this strength to preform harsh labor on the farm, as well as look after her brothers and sisters. Reaching 18 summers, she sought out to do more with her young life. There had to be more to the world, than farming and the Black Shroud. She sought adventure!

She encountered the Sea Wolf Lucienne Beauvilliers within the South Shroud. Lucienne was an adventurer and was there gathering materials for crafting. She started that she enjoyed gathering, but needed extra hands to get what she needed. She proposed to Nita that she could employ her as a retainer. The offer would allow Nita to travel and see the world, just like Lucienne herself. All she had to do was gather materials on occasion and deliver them to Lucienne. She recommended that Nita should travel to Ul'dah to start as a puglist. The idea was to start by learning to fight with her fists, before using actual weapons. It could be vital, if she were to be disarmed.

Nita developed an fascination for the art of war. She studied books, as well as watched adventurers battle monsters. She would also practice at home with farm tools, trying her best to avoid breaking them. Her mother supported her decision, believing she didn't 'own' Nita. No longer should she be confined to the farm; it was time for her to live her own life. Nita Lee bid farewell to her family and set out to Ul'dah to start her life as an adventurer. Each meeting with Lucienne included sharing a story.

"There's no way I can miss a chance like this! Watch over me, everyone. I'll miss you all!" -Nita Lee

All of my yes to the femroes

Also, might as well toss up Ruin's backstory:

Grew up in Costa De Sol to a Hellsguard mother and Sea Wolf father. Became friends with (and eventually blood brothers) with four other kids (Obront Jeafacort (female Elezen), Ruby Cantor the Miqo'te (tomboy female), John Whitewood (male Hyur), and Zunaru Naru (male Lalafell). After seeing a paladin when in their teens hold off some animals from a merchant, they went to Ul'dah to train to become Sultansworn. They saw the take over of Ala Mhigo and even took part in an off skirmish battle before the cataclysm (though I admit I took some liberty with them being stationed near Wineport where I assumed fighting would also erupt). Ruinous and his blood brothers and sisters fought together.

John Whitewood was always the lesser willed of the group so in a state of fear (and here comes the big twist for many), he ran through Obront, Ruby, and Zunaru during a fight before fleeing the battlefield. Only reason he didn't get Ruin was the Roegadyn taking a rest back at camp. Ruinous had to identify the body of the three slain and hunted down John (which took a year). Found him in Cortheous hiding out before they fought due to John blaming Ruin for not dieing and letting John himself follow them afterwards. Ruin won but not without serious injuries before teleporting back to Limsa where he passed out and was taken care of by his friends.

A simple adventurer who escaped the fall of Ala Mhigo with his family when he was young. After learning the skills of both Dark Knight and Red Mage, he and his brother returned to help with the resistance fight to liberate their homeland from Garlean control. Along the way he finds and adopts a young orphaned Miqo'te and raises him as his son, continuing his adventurers while teaching him the craft of adventuring and traveling the world to help those in need.

In practice, of course, it's not always the case. I'd be lying if I claimed my character didn't end up being some version of me in real life, despite my best efforts at imagining him as his own person.

I'm curious, though, about how you're internalising the broader themes that define this world's cosmology, because it is, in fact, very different in philosophy and motivation from Judeo-Christian monotheism. This is a potentially sensitive topic, so I'd kindly request that all posters to keep replies civil.

The key point is that FFXIV emphasises the need for balance. Too much light or darkness is not good, either way. The two concepts may be in conflict, but they are also co-dependent.
I accept the existence of Hydaelyn, Zodiark, and the Twelve. But I am also taking the liberty of inserting my own lore. It's a stretch, and I'm aware that there will be people who refuse me for it. But for about 90% of the people I roleplayed with, there had been no problems.

It's basically this... My character's God is a hidden "Thirteenth" deity. In an attempt to not be lore-intrusive, I made his influence in Eorzea as minor as I can manage. But ultimately, HE EXISTS and he is the sole patron of my character.

I think we're approaching the question from very different angles. As far as I'm concerned, it's a fantasy world completely separate from our own, so we start from scratch. It has its own cosmology and there's nothing 'wrong' with God-as-we-know-Him not existing in it.

The reason we wouldn't worship an Earth-mother-goddess isn't because it's an Earth-mother-goddess or because it's something that other religions worship (otherwise we're in trouble because other real-world religions do have a similar concept of God to us), but simply because she isn't God.

However, in the game's fictional universe, the Earth-mother *is* a real goddess (or something like one) that our character has seen and spoken with.

If you try to put the Christian God - who does not co-exist with other 'good' gods - into this universe, what does that make Hydaelyn and Her blessing upon our character? Why is She the one addressing us as her beloved child?

It seems much simpler to accept what is presented to us in-game, than try to rewrite it to fit God where there is no space for Him to be. Hydaelyn takes the role that He would have if He existed in this universe, even if her exact form and the scope of her power is different. And if you have to compromise what God is and does to make Him fit within the game's universe, then is it even still Him?

Of course most Eorzeans don't worship Hydaelyn herself, but the Twelve (who the game hints may or may not actually be real, but people believe that they are). I have no issue with the idea of my characters praying to these lesser gods, because it's what they know. I feel like the parallel is more about the intent than the exact form of the gods? So whether my characters are praying to Thaliak for wisdom, or to Oschon for a safe journey, or giving thanks to Nophica, it's all some form of prayer to [a god] and they do it with the same intent that I would have in praying to God for any of those things.

You could still consider us learning of Hydaelyn as "a higher true god beyond the Twelve" as part of your narrative, if you want to look at it that way?
    Thanks.

This post of yours is eye-opening and enlightening. I'll reread it in the future for guidance. It's quality stuff!
