    Controller Nonresponsive/Will Not Calibrate

    Hello,

I've recently been having troubles using controllers (Xbox 360, PS4, AND Xbox One) on FFXIV on PC. Twice in the last month, I've logged in and my controllers have suddenly not been functioning. The camera will randomly spin around, my character will stop responding, ability inputs become laggy or don't register at all.

I fixed it the first time by removing my UI folder and re-calibrating my controller when prompted upon logging in. Unfortunately, it's happened again and this time, after removing the UI, the calibration process stops halfway through and my character is still unresponsive/camera still will randomly spin. I've tried multiple USB ports, different types of controllers, turning them off and back on again, and nothing's worked.

I tried re-downloading/re-installing the game the last time this happened and nothing happened so I'm hesitant to sit through another 4 hours of re-downloading again. Does anyone have any idea?

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

When did this start happening? Did anything change/update on your PC that coincides with this? Do you see any similarities between this time and the other time it happened?

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "the calibration process stops halfway through?" Does it not let you complete the controller calibration?

The Xbox controllers should work natively with Windows, but are you using some other program to connect your PS4 controller to your PC?

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

This started happening yesterday at around 8:00 PM CST. I was playing the game fine just 3 hours prior and did not experience any issues until I logged back in a few hours later. The only similarities I can really see are that both instances began happening on Sundays, which I'm sure is just weird coincidence, and the fact that it happened really spontaneously-- I was able to use my controllers just fine until suddenly, I wasn't. There were no PC updates that I am aware of and my PC's history seems to suggest nothing really changed in that time either.

During the calibration process, I may get 3 or 4 buttons calibrated before the inputs stop registering. There's about a 2 or 3 second window where the calibration process will be waiting for me to input a button to calibrate but nothing will happen when I hit the button. Then the calibration process resets itself and I'm back to square one.

I was originally not using anything to connect my PS4 controller other than the USB cord. It worked fine for a few months but when I started having issues last time, I tried to get DS4Windows. It did not improve the situation at all.

Thank you for the update Melixy.

I do have a few more questions regarding your PC and controller.

    1) What operating system do you have?
    2) You mentioned this happens with the PS4 controller, but does the same thing happen with the 360 and Xbox One controller you listed in the first post?
    3) Are you using the same USB cord for all of the controllers? Do you have another you can test?
    4) Do similar issues appear in other games?

You can try deleting the whole FFXIV folder in the My Documents folder (not just the UI settings) and see if that has any affect. Just be aware that this will delete all of your user settings (hotbars, gear sets, etc.)

You can also try a clean boot. Simply open the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything here and restart the PC. This will make sure that no background processes are interfering with the game.

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!
