As Luin pointed out even the japanese players seems to find this change a bit strange and we should not forget that their playerbase is the minority and even those could have enough people that are hurt by this change. (Also if they dont want to even go into 24 man raids with secondary jobs, why do they even need gear for them? If they dont run normal content with those jobs, would they truly run raids with it?)

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

Well i350-370 24man in Rabanastre could skip Mateus's toads pretty handily, I've seen it done cleanly a few times, I have no idea how fast you can wreck stuff with i370 when everybody's on point. More gear you're going to do more damage, having faster and smoother runs. I understand that, but the players that need these 24mans for what they were intended, to catchup in ilvl and supplement you while gearing with tomes, aren't the players that want to, or have the time, to dedicate multiple 30-50 minute runs, and will hate not having the guarantee they'll get that loot if it *even drops*. So an average player is going to login, and half of their time is going to be spent in this one instance for that day, and even if the loot drops, you have to win it.

It should have a token system. You can win loot outright, but regardless, at the end of the run, you should get a Gear Token to trade for any 1 piece of gear from that raid, and lock it weekly. So you have x/2 loot, the chest loot, cluster+upgrade+gear tokens. So you're still incentivizing players to run it multiple times for the chest, but nobody is ever going to walk away after 20 hours in a week with nothing.

This is another heavyhanded, player hostile method to increase 24man "popularity".

As for me, I'll be part of the problem. I'll run it once a week (maybe some more at launch), and I'm going to roll on everything regardless.
