So I've been getting weird messages at login with increasing frequency recently. The first few I was happy to ignore and follow the link to reset my password, but it's happening often enough nowadays for me to start wondering if anyone else gets 'em as frequently as I do. (If enough do, I'll assume it's some sort of problem and not the more worrying option, that someone, for some reason, is trying to access my account.) Here's the message.

"Due to a change in your connection settings or the detection of suspicious access to your account, login to your account has been temporarily restricted."

First, there's been no connection settings change. Second, I have one service account so someone else around where I live hasn't attempted to log into theirs and got it wrong. Furthermore, I've never gave out my password or login details to anyone, or gave any friends the means to use my character for whatever it is they do. Third, this computer's clean. So seriously, it's neither of those things.

It's happening really frequently lately. Has anyone else noticed anything like this?

This Occurs every time the IP address you log in with Changes. This is designed to prevent anyone without access to your User ID, Password and Email Address and Password from stealing your account.

I see this message often because I Play on four different computers.

If you are seeing this constantly from a single computer it is likely that your Service Provider does not give you a static IP address and has been changing it on you on a regular basis. This is a fairly normal practice, but I believe you can manually override it in your router settings.

It didn't happen to me until about November. Then it happened like, four times a week for a while, and then ceased for about a month and a bit... now again. It's weird!

....Ah. Yeah, it's probably that. My ISP do that. Well, that's resolved then. I'll try and remember the settings page thingie for my router and have a little play.

That... would make me worry. It should NOT happen with a security token. You should probably contact SE about it.

This happens to me frequently, I dont think it has as much to do with playing on different IPs as it does how you log in and off. I play on laptop and tower, I travel a lot so I like to play on the road. I rarely am forced to change my password unless my game crashes (whole different discussion, when will they fix the constant crashes jeez). Sometimes it also happens when I forget to log off at home (tower) and log on the next day with my laptop. So yeah, I think if you d/c, game crash, or log on with different IP while logged on (or closed game last session with d/c, or crash) it will prompt you to change password.

Anyhow not to bash the game, because I'm very hopeful things will continue to get better, but let's be perfectly honest... why would anyone 'steal' something that's worthless? The state the game is in doesn't give others a great deal of incentive to put the time and effort into hacking your account.

Just to go into a bit more detail with this, if you do crash/dc or somehow log out wrong and you're charactor is still in the 'game world' you are still technically logged on SE's server. If any IP (even if it's not changed) attempts to log on while your account is still.... logged on I guess, I could see this as throwing a red flag. At any rate, not much you can do about it minus security token.
