Because I love all of my goofy friends and am hopelessly addicted.
Because of Regal Golden Lions, literally the best FC on Mateus lead by myself, the King of all Elezen.
Several reason on why I still play FFXIV:
1. The thrills of combat I get from doing dungeons, trials, and other battle content. If the battle content didn't click with me, I wouldn't have continued my journeys in FFXIV in the first place.
2. I like to help others and earn some cool stuff along the way (gil, exp, gear, glam, housing, etc.) I like to make a difference in someone's game life. I also am a firm believer that a little goes a long way.
3. My desire for earning achievements that I can reasonably reach. For example, fate achievements, getting EX primal clears, earning EX primal mounts, earning tank mounts, etc. Those Stormblood wolves will be mine for all 3 of my active characters soon enough. The flying tank mounts are a bonus as well since they are quite time consuming.
At the end of the day, if I believe in myself, put my best foot forward in any duty I go in, and work together with others as a team, I will be enjoying FFXIV for years to come.

"Break a warrior's body, and he will thirst for vengeance. Break his spirit, and he will clamor for peace. Judge my methods distasteful if you will - but know that I seek to end this conflict, not prolong it." - Yadovv Gah, Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn
Because I'm not a gil billionaire owning a large house and catbois who debase themselves for my amusement, for a little bit of gil...yet.
Simply put because I still have fun, and I also quite enjoy the story.
It still does many things right, it helps that I usually avoid doing everything in the first 2 days like some crazy people so I have still lot of content left
I don't play as often as I did in the beginning but it's still my to go MMO when I'm not Bullet Jumping my Space Ninja through Space Ships using Space Magic. (12.7 points for who knows what game I mean)
RP, housing, RPing in my house.
Some people PAY for this game just to troll on the forums.
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
Roleplaying, the other aspects of the game slowly lost my interest over the years and Eureka was a bust. I'm giving the story one more chance to grab me, but only because it might involve the Garleans doing something other than dying in droves. I couldn't care less about Ala Mihgo and Doma.
If I don't like where the story is going, well I figure this is the patch that will decide where the Empire and its people are going in the story, so that will decide it for me.
Fighting imperials just isn't entertaining anymore, It's like how ARR and Heavensward overplayed all the dragons and dragon bosses.

I still play for a few reasons myself.
1) The community, because this is the primary reason I play an MMORPG. If the community isn't great, I don't stick around, but if its great, I'll hang around for a long time.
2) If I am honest, time devotion. I'm an old 1.0 player, I've been at this since 2010 and I have Legacy status. I have to much time in this game to easily just walk away.
3) The Lore/Story... Seriously. This game has amazing lore & story. One of the best imo. It is a guessing game of "what will happen next!" and I do love theory-crafting. Ever since they brought back in The Horn" as an important story-bit, where I was sure for a time it was a plot-hole to be forgotten, I've realized not only how far in advance these guys have their story figured out, but how every piece of information dropped is a hint to something in the future. I /love/ a good story and I love even more a story that makes me think, try to guess ahead, and see if I am right.
