Congratulations, you just described every MMO ever made. Every patch is the same stuff with a new coat of paint. Nothing new here.

Actually not every MMO stays the same.
FFXI was different up until the last expansion everything was different always something new was added to do, when you go back you are overwhelmed and do not know what to do first.
FFXI now though is just re-hashing of old content sure but before nope.
what I mean by straight line is ffxiv goes forward with same stuff and main story while ffxi was main story, rank different story, burn circle fights, dynamis, gods, NM's, farming you had so much stuff to do to not get bored you were occupied and if you were getting bored you could go and do something else, while ffxiv once you max for week story was done with in a day you have nothing to do, no break off points no farming, no NM hunting <--- this isn't the same as hunts because if you finished hunts the points aren't worth it, cept maybe for the cracked item. other than that you are stuck waiting for tuesday reset.
Some MMO's I will agree they follow the straight line but I have played a lot of them and some like to throw new things to the mix to keep the wheel flowing so don't say every mmo walks a straight line.
FFXIV is like diablo 2 everything is the same but you still keep playing hoping one day something will change.
hahaha

I still play because I have fun doing various things from leveling jobs/classes, collecting minions/mounts/tt cards/barding/glamours, Eureka, getting my perfect squadron, finishing old raids I never got around to, watching cutscenes, doing every quest I find, and all while playing with my friends.
Some days I'm super busy grinding something out, other days I just hang out at my house and talk to my LS for hours on end, seems there is always something to hold my interest even after playing since ARR beta.
Of course but some people just don't do that stuff or have already done it they are fast to blow through content.I still play because I have fun doing various things from leveling jobs/classes, collecting minions/mounts/tt cards/barding/glamours, Eureka, getting my perfect squadron, finishing old raids I never got around to, watching cutscenes, doing every quest I find, and all while playing with my friends.

I think people like story driven content.
like the detective stuff but its super short each patch but people love it.
Now if SE branched off a few story driven content battles and stuff it would keep people occupied for a while especially if they make it grindy.
Or the key item ??? spawns all over the place in FFXI that was good, people joined together to get key items for gear and items to sell but it took a long time to farm up those items to get a good pop boss.
if they did that in FFXIV that would be something good.
cause that could be something to do as a LS or FC or just with random people from Server.

Right.
I like ffxiv i will give it time, its growing but slowly maybe one day they will have branch off's to do other stuff but they need to give it a grind this way people can't fly through it and come on here and say whats next.
