Suggestion: Adjust how limit break is generated.

Not that I do speedruns myself much but I'm hearing so many complaints from those who do that trying to speedrun raids is far too dependant on critical healing.

For the best example check the fastest kill for regular kefka savage, where they abused healing from critical HP to generate three LB3s and an LB2 in under 5 minutes.

The general consensus is that it's taking all the fun out of it and perhaps a solution would be to just remove the bonus limit break from healing someone with very low HP.

Doesn't "abusing healing from critical HP" require some amount of skill from both the healers and tanks? Shouldn't that skill be rewarded?

I don't really have any opinion one way or the other, so don't take this as a criticism. I legitimately don't know the answer to these questions.

Speed runs are such a meta thing to do in this game. I don't think they're going to want to change how the rest of the game works for that reason alone.

Are mobs really that hard that LB needs to be adjusted? I mean if you actually stun moves the LB bar raises faster as it as long as there are no duplicate jobs in group. -.-

We have personal limit breaks, they're called powerful cooldowns made available through building or maintaining the job gauge for X amount of time (Greased Lightning, Life of the Dragon, Darkside) e.g. Nastrond, Verflare, Bhavacakra, Bloodspiller. Skills with long cooldowns the give a powerful effect instantly like Benediction (Full heal, 0 MP, no cast), Hallowed Ground, etc. All are virtually what a "personal LB" would be, they just aren't branded as LBs and have no "gauge" but you can think of them as having a gauge that is available at the start of a fight but fills with time once used....

So you add a bar that increases slowly over time and when used you deal a 500 potency attack, or get a free AoE cure, or reduce incoming damage by 20%. How is that different from a regular job ability cooldown that already exists? What you're saying is adding a new button to press during content that does what we already have, but instead of an extra resource/cooldown in essence. Adding this would mean re-balancing all content to account for this extra new damage or heal, and again, these ALREADY EXIST and are baked into jobs right now! What difference is there between a 400 damage Limit Break that can be used every few minutes, vs an oGCD that can be used every few min with similar potency? A cast bar? An LB sound? It's the same thing under the hood buddy. One is available and is on a cooldown, the other is accrued over time through attacking, but they're both gated behind -time-, just differently. If you strip away what a personal LB looks and sounds like, it boils down to just being another cooldown that deals damage, mitigates damage, or heals.

I never said what the limit break would be. It could be any number of things, not just "another cooldown that deals, mitigates, or heals damage".

This game is all about its aesthetic, because it's not exactly breaking boundaries on a mechanical level. Whatever criteria you set, the Limit Break has for quite some time been a defining cinematic moment in the Final Fantasy franchise, and as it stands, a good portion of what's available is never used.

I'd question whether it's wise for SE to cater to / support competitive speedrunning in the first place. It doesn't really benefit the game in any way; all it really does is make some subset of people care about 'meta comps', which has had unhealthy chain reactions downstream in PF and such for as long as it's been a thing. Maybe they're actually -happy- if the top end of speedrunning is a miserable mess.
