Is anyone else worried that this downtime might have a negative impact on the game?

We've been talking about this in the Private section of the CKD boards. Im curious to see what other people on the server think?

I personally think it depends on the downtime. One week is fine, not many people are going to go out and get a new 59.99 game to play because they dont have FFXIV for a week.
However, you take this game down for 2-3 weeks and people are going to start looking for something to do. Some players will go back and play some wow, others will hop to new MMOs like Rift and DCU. I think we are going to lose a chunk of the player base if this goes over two weeks. Im happy with CKD knowing that all of us will be back regardless of the downtime, but the big picture concerns me.

It is a concern for me as well but this game has already lost a huge player base. I think the developers will not get players back by bringing the servers back sooner. I think they will bring players back by improving the game and people like me and you telling people how awesome the game is since the changes. Hopefully that will be our future.

I am worried too, if this downtime extends any longer, some people; like you said before; will start going back to their previous games and such out of boredom, some will come back, but who knows if the rest will, I just hope the servers get back soon, I'm one of those that are bored to the core and have nothing to do ;_;

The server downtime certainly isn't something this game needed, but I think it'll be all right.

I think the people who truly enjoy FFXIV will be back no matter what. As has been said, this game has already lost a great number of players, and I'd think that those of us who are still around at this point will weather this storm fairly easily. It's the people who have been on the fence that might not make it, but then I have a feeling they'd eventually go, anyway.

Myself, I've MMO-hopped so much that I'm not sure I can do that anymore. Just finished my free month of DCUO and can't see staying there. And I've tried most of the other MMOs, but they're all too similar to one another to interest me. I like FFXIV because it's Final Fantasy and it's unique.

I don't know. Maybe I'm just optimistic about this game in general. It could turn out that this'll be the final nail in the coffin. But I'll be back when the game is live again, regardless.

Financially, it doesn't really do anything since no one's paying for this game anyway. It may hurt the game in the areas of word-of-mouth and visibility in the public consciousness, but other than that it shouldn't be that bad. Population will most likely take a hit, but the situation is still similar to before the servers went down: Most of the people playing this game are the ones that really like it despite its flaws. A week of downtime will not turn that base away.

The major event that will give this game a boost is the PS3 launch, and that's gonna happen eventually, with or without downtime.

As for the game, well if people leave, i hope its the trolls like yarr that go. Man this would be a great game with a little more content, and and a little less Yarr and his little troll followers.

I haven't read any of Yarr's other posts but this one seems legitimate. As I have said in other posts, there is trolls on this forum but there also seems to be people calling others trolls who don't seem to be. This particular post seems like a real concern many players including myself have. I am positive SE is discussing the same thing right now. Financially this is a hit because SE will not charge us players until they feel the player base has come back. This doesn’t look like it is going to help any but who knows. Only time will tell. For all we know SE could be pulling something out of their sleeve as we speak. We can only wait. It is good for us all to hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

To Rentahamster and DavidLocksley: I totaly agree however Yarr as well as several others have been attacking me and my LS for months now, so I am just going after them with reckless abandon.

As for the future of this game, I can understand the concerns but lets be honest: If your reading this forum, and was still playing before the servers went offline, then your a FF addict like me and most likely wont 'just leave' over this.

Realistically though, the issues with the reactors is so severe the concern isnt if SE will be ok, but the entire nation. There is nuclear radiation in the air, the ground and the water. They will be dealing with this for years in ways we can only hope not to ever have to deal with.


People are worried about a game? There is just too much more important things to think about, then if they turn the servers on. If they can restore service, they will, they simply need the income and taxes to rebuild.

SE will offer some gimmicks and other incentives to play or whatever it takes to get a reasonable player base back. Its SE, we stuck with them during the bad release, the horrid patches and all the scary nerfs to ffxi... At least we can understand the natrual disaster over why they nerfed ability 'x'
