    Chronosguard (Tank Concept)

Story: [Ghost of Our Past, Present, and Future]
    Job: [Chronosguard]
    Class: [Tank]
    Weapon: Scythe Relic Weapon:Apocalypse

    *New Lore and Story

    -
*Updated the Lore behind who the Chronosguard is, and how he's connected to the Warrior of Light. Please note there might be some typos, will fix soon.

    -
    Preliminary Quest: 70
    Name: [A Time Torn Mystery]

    Level: 80 Chronosguard Unlock Quest:

*[Ghost of Our Past, Present, and Future]

Ancient Sharlayn, a island to the north of Eorzea, was known as the "Old World," a nation full of academic and scholastic individuals, wished to keep themselves seldom from international political agendas. Upon seeing the apparent determination Garlemald had towards conquest, they withdrew from the Eorzea.

    [The Order of the Chronosguard]

The establishment of the Chronosguard began in Ancient Sharlayan to guard and protect the coveted knowledge, pertaining to Hydaelyn, the Mother Crystal, and wished to preserve it for the generations to come, and to wield, this ancient power.
This power, though not known by many, and empowered by Hydaelyn herself, was a knowledge and ability wielded by few. This conjure made those who wielded it vulnerable to the currents of time; allowing them to transcend through its flow as an omnipresent ghost.
These wielders of scythes, wore dark garments, and masked their face, and those who witnessed their transcendence through the course of time, imagined them as the reaper of souls.
Seeing how powerful this new magic was, the Order of the Chronosguard was established, and pretty soon, amongst the few, chosen by Hydaelyn herself, to wield this power, a new leader was chosen to preserve, and protect this collective knowledge.
And now, mostly elapsed by time itself, only a small few Chronosguards remain, and those left, must be vigilant, and find others chosen by Hydaelyn to pass on this knowledge.
As the Garlemald Empire continues its conquest, a Chronosguard, one who's time is almost up, has seen a revelation of a darkness engulfing Hydaelyn herself, and this darkness is linked to something in Garlemald.

    -

    [Present Day]

We see the last remaining Chronosguards in Manderville Gold Saucer, in search of a new recruit, to pass on this knowledge…

    -
    The Chronosguard's Absolution

"I have seen everything, past, present, and future. I've seen your tale in the drifts of time… I've witnessed the trials you've endured, the loss… and I've seen your end, and that is I, I am here to stop myself. To join you, and to extend my hand to be victorious, where you failed." Chronosguard Ullyn says to the Warrior of Light before instilling in him/her the powers of the Chronosguard and the Time Gauge.

    -
    [Changes Made Recently]

-[The Time Knight's Skill and Rotations]-

-Please note this is a long list

-Polishing up the rotation up a bit and added a new mechanic with a "Time Gauge," this gauge allows the Time Knight to build up a meter that's tied into his chronological Lapses.

Due to this, there's been a few changes on the abilities he has.
    • * Future Time Lapses, are made up, sort of foreshadowing an enemy that the Warrior of Light may face in the near future.
    • *Changed Cataclysm to "Calamity" Spell, changed Shinryu to "Bahamut," made more sense for the Chronological Portal appearances lol
    • *Changed the spell to "Mega Flare," his iconic reoccurring move in Final Fantasy games.
    • *Changed Wyrm-Lapse to include "Bahamut"
    • *Added new Spell: "Rewind," Raises downed ally

Total list of Spells, Weapon Skills, and Abilities is 24

    [What's a Chronological Lapse?]

Though most events he's seen are from the past, the Chronosguard also can open time portals into the future, therefore foreshadowing what exactly he saw that ended the world.

[The Final Spell Calamity saw some changes]

The Spell Calamity is called Calamity on screen when the Time Gauge is not in use, upon its shift to let's say "Past," Mega Flare appears on the icon; this is for button bloating, one button for all three spells: dependent on Time Gauge Orientation.

Here's also my vision for these spells: A Portal Opens, and the portal shows the video (Like looking out a window) of let's say Bahamut casting Mega Flare and the Mega Flare springs out of the Portal.

    • (60) Calamity: [120s] 2000 MP A Time Portal opens over the Time Mage and brings forth an ending of the Past or the Future, dependent on the Time Gauge Orientation.

o [Past]: Mega Flare: Bahamut comes forth the Time Portal and strikes enemies within range with Mega Flare; it inflicts damage of 440, for first enemy, and 240 if more than one enemy is within range and causes a temporary Magical Defense Down of 3%.
o [Future]: Shadow Flare: An unknown, shadowed, Ascian Overlord, comes forth the Time Portal and casts Shadow Flare to strike enemies within range; it inflicts 440, for first enemy, and 240 if more than one enemy is within range to enemies within range and grants a temporary Physical Defense Down of 3%.
o [Present] Minfilia's Gift: White Wings waft around the Chronosguard that Grants a Party Wide Time Barrier that reduces damage to party members within range by 40% and upon its rupture, it rewinds time to grant a powerful cure.
    -Duration: 10s

    -Cure Potency 200

    -Additional Effect: Increased Enmity

    -
    -The Time Gauge Mechanic-

The Time Gauge Mechanic charge is dependent on what Weapon Skills the Chronosguard uses in its Rotation.
The Chronosguard is equipped with Two Weapon Skills from an enemy boss from the Past, and two Weapon Skills from an unseen boss from the Future.
It takes Three Complete Rotations to fill the gauge full on one side, and once the gauge is full, Calamity unlocks and the Chronosguard can use this spell.

The Weapon Skills below will show what time period the "Time Lapse" is from.

    • [Ultima-Lapse]: Past
    • [Wyrm-Lapse]: Past
    • [Omega-Lapse]: Future
    • [Ascian-Lapse]: Future

If the player decides to play the rotation equal, it requires 4 rotations to get an equal gauge for "Present"

*When the Chronosguard initiates let's say: Wyrm-Lapse, he spins the dial backwards, which is the Time Gauge in the shape of a clock on his chest, and opens the portal; Time Lapse abilities use MP.
While under the effect of Light Arts all Lapse abilities are enhanced by 10%

    -
    Weapon Rotation

[Level / Weapon Skill / TP / Description]

    • [1] Clockwise Spiral (2.5s / 60) Delivers an attack with a potency of 150.
    o Additional Effect: Increased Enmity

    • [10] Shadows of Time: (2.5s / 60) Delivers a three-Fold attack with the potency of 200 that increases Magical Damage by 10%

    • [24] Omega-Lapse: (MP) A Time portal appears over the enemy, and Omega's leg ruptures through and strikes enemy with the potency of 210

    • [30] Chronotrigger: (2.5s / 120) Delivers a ranged attack with a potency of 120
    • o Additional Effect: Increased Enmity
    • o Additional Effect: Light Arts Upon Impact, Area of Effect Stop
    • o Duration: 2s
    • [54] Wyrm-Lapse: (MP) A Time portal ruptures before the Time Knight and Bahamut's wing bashes against the enemy(ies) with the potency of 60; additional effect Stun.

    • [30] Nightmare Reaper: (2.5s / 120) 2 Scythes manifest themselves, one appearing from behind, the other, held by the Chronosguard, and strikes the enemy with a potency of 320
    • *Additional Effect: Partial Damage Converted to MP

    • [64] Ascian-Lapse: (MP) A Time Portal opens in front of the Time Knight and an Ascian Overlord tosses a Dark Orb at the enemy with the potency of 210.
    • *Additional Effect when used with Combo: Transfers Partial Damage to MP

    • [70] Quantum Break: (2.5s / TP60) Delivers a powerful strike that manipulates a time-lapse and pinches the enemy with the potency of 440
    • *Additional Effect: Enmity Increase
    • *Additional Effect: Light Arts: Time Gauge Increased by 25%
    • *Additional Effect: Balance: Attack Potency: 640
    • [34] Ultima-Lapse: (MP) A Time Portal opens in front of the Time Knight an Ultima fires Aetheric Bomb at the enemy with the potency of 230.

    -
-Let's Talk about the new Rotation Mechanic-

    Opener Trash Mob Enmity Rotation:

Demi >> Chronotrigger (Combo Bonus: *Wyrm-Lapse) >> Wyrm-Lapse (Combo Bonus: Enhanced Banish): >> Enhanced Banish

    Remember: Wyrm-Lapse is an AoE
Banish becomes: Enhanced Banish with Combo, inflicting damage to ALL enemies within Range, at a Reduced Potency

    -Regular Rotation:

    Regular Future Gauge Filler:
    • Clockwise Spiral >> Omega Lapse >> Shadows of Time >> Ascian Lapse

    Regular Past Gauge Filler:
    • Clockwise Spiral >> Wyrm-Lapse >> Shadows of Time >> Ultima-Lapse

    Present Gauge Filler:
    • Clockwise Spiral >> Future / Past >> Shadows of Time >> Future / Past
    -
    MP Rotation:
    • Clockwise Spiral >> Nightmare Reaper >> Ascian-Lapse

    Powerful Single Target Strike Combo:

Light Arts >>Quantum Break >> Banish

    -Buff Rotation for Attack Phase:

Light Arts >> Haste >> Blink >> Attack Phase

-Tank Buster *OH ???? Moment Rotation

    Undo >> Commence Tanking Phase

Or If avoiding a timed Tank Buster

    Teleport >> Commence Tanking Phase

-Solo Tanking Dungeon Bosses and still want to pump out that DPS

Light Arts >> Reflect >> Balance >> Commence Attack Phase

So performing the Combo three times and changing the Lapse Ability charges the Time Gauge to perform Calamity.

    [Conclusion]

This is another fun little tank concept I had in mind. It's sort of a Hybrid Caster tank in a way; because it does have a set of spells and a set of Weapon abilities, and 4 of their Weapon Skills are I guess you can call: Summons lol.

*To balance this I reduced the General Abilities: for button bloating, because as I added these abilities / spells / Weapon Skills I had to picture them on a controller, to see how easy it could be managed.

*Now, tank wise, I am still inept, when it comes to visually trying to put together a Tank that has cooldowns and rotations that's somewhat for "Strategic Uses." For Raid Bosses and such which a lot of end gamers do.

*My best friend is a hardcore Raider and while speaking to him he sort of painted a picture of let's say one of the hard Savage Raid bosses like Neo Exdeath or God Kefka and how mitigations / cooldowns / tank busters all have to play a role, sort of like a symphony. Again did I perfect it, probably not lol; but hopefully with feedback and such I can better polish it.

Thanks for reading! Maybe one day we'll see a job the community sort of fleshed out, kind of like they are doing with the armor.

Sincerest Gratitude and Shout out to:

    >> Kazrah and Eloah <<

For helping me envision and polish up this concept. The feedback was incredible and helped me hone in my creativity, while still utilizing those special touches that make a job have that Final Fantasy touch.

Another shout out to LeoLupinos for not only his excellent looking Job Concept, but also giving me inspiration, I hope a variation of our jobs will be seen in the future of FFXIV =D

And another shout out to all the others who replied and gave feedback, thank you so much!

    See y'all in game!

I'm current developing a Job to FF14, since Yoshida said that they want a Original Job to FF14. It's been years that I'm storing from all games and possible sources about time magic and interesting job mechanics. It's nearly done and it's awesome. I'm just fixing details and doing interviews so that ppl can help me with lore and Job usefullness. It's also about "time & space magic", but more about reality manipulation than classic time mage.

Your Job brings some interesting mechanics, I hope it inspires the Devs.

I would love a Job Design Contest some day.

@Edit: Do you know some source of information about time magic? of any game or article.

So Lore wise, I just sort of tie it in with FFXIV's already made history. I tied this job with the Astrolagians since they have some connections with time.

The job components I searched Final Fantasy Jobs, and it gives you a break down to jobs used in previous games. I add some FF Classic moves with some new ones. Its interesting to read where the jobs appear and their moves, and corresponding moves that are constant game after game. Time Mage is very interesting, as it can be a fun little job to play with, and whatever way its sliced would be super interesting how it would pan out.

But Lore is all about the imagination, just make a story, flesh it out, and show it. That's what I do with all my job concepts, the story sometimes is the most important part as it breaths life into the job your making.

I tied in my Rune Fencer with Red Mage in one of my previous concepts, bc I love how Astrolagians tied Geomancer in with their story; so I can't wait to see if we can get play as Geomancer in the near future.

Time Knight is a dumb name. Chronomancer makes more sense.

Thanks for your honesty! The name, Time Knight comes from what he used to be, a Time Mage. Chronomancer sounds like a neat name too, would have never thought of about it.

After having a conversation with my friend who also plays this game, he actually pointed out that he would have made a Time Mage a healer, which sort of opened my mind into a what-if it were a healer. Sadly, I have a feeling if a new healer were to be made, I'd take my pick it to Geomancer, as its already in the game. But we'll see what twists SE has, maybe it'll make the Blue Mage a healer ahahaha.

If this was actually a job in the game it would be completely busted. Most of the cooldowns are complete damage immunity or absorption, and multiple hard CCs.

Pretty much this. A lot of the mechanical details show almost no understanding of how tanks actually work in this game on a mechanical level. Also the lore presented, although providing a mildly interesting story premise, shows little knowledge the full lore of Astrologians, especially when Time Mages in the game are simply considered to be empowered Astrologians.

That being said, the basic concept of a chronomancy-themed tank is something I like, and would definitely loved to see this polished, balanced and fleshed out more after looking through lore for Astrologians and definitely taking a look at Time Mages in Final Fantasy XII (a.k.a. the Time Battlemages).

Ha, it was one of the job (but i called it "spacetime soldier") I did back one year ago (but not published here, but it's planned).
I post without having read entirely you post, but I will come back here in some days to give you my thought.

I spoke to my friend after he read this and he said the same thing, regarding the mechanics of tanks, I think we had like a 20 min, conversation b/c he mains Warrior. He told me so pretty much with Omnipresence he can escape 4 tank busters? So I adjusted it to two images and reduced the time to 10s. He also liked the idea of a hammer wielding tank, I'd love to see one as well, he sort of imaged it like in Vermintide 2, with Bardin Goreksson, using a hammer and just going to town on enemies.

Thanks for the feedback; I've adjusted a few things, including some of the Lore. I tied in the Geomancy too, since they have a connection with the astrologians.

You can pull the name Time Battle mage from ff12 za, it's a job that wears heavy armor and uses time/green magic.
