Ehh... I agree and disagree.

You can like a race's appearance for reasons beyond standards of beauty/attractiveness, but at the same time, one has to accept responsibility for their choices. Take WoW, for example. I met very few players who didn't understand that rolling a Blood Elf was going to result in instant hate from a lot of, "True," Horde players. When players rolled a female Draenei, they were quite well aware, for the most part, about the various jokes and views about them.

If you're going to roll in this game what is largely seen as the, "Waifu," race/gender combination, then you should be prepared for how people are going to view said character.

I certainly didn't pick male miqo'te thinking that I WOULDN'T be stereotyped as various things. I like how they look and I also figured people would judge me for my choice. Can't say I care what people think but when someone drops a dumb comment like, "Are you a furry," I just shrug because I expected to get questions like that the minute I made the character.

One can't change how people will behave or perceive things. One can adapt and prepare for it.
