Mod users in FFXIV are getting out of control

Is it really incredibly offensive though? I think a little step backwards followed by a reality check is in order here

Are we now at the point where we get to judge what other people may or may not find offensive?

We don't know how old OP is (maybe they're a minor?), we don't know their relationship history or if there has ever been any abuse. Maybe they just don't enjoy unwanted sexual attention? They could also be a giant prude. Regardless of the reason, just because you don't find something offensive doesn't mean that someone else shouldn't as well.

And if they do, it'll be both sad and hilarious that they respond to client-side texture alterations (because their engine restricts having truly unique characters, which in this day and age is just sad), and because they're willing to pay attention to this, and not the rampart bots that continue to make life for crafters and gatherers hard because Square sees only the bottom dollar line that their accounts give the company.

This would be truly sad to see. Jumping on some harmless client-side mods that not everyone even uses for the nudity instead of actual issues like bots completely ruining PvP modes >_>.

I mean, again, I just can't see the issue with your character being seen naked to someone else. I feel I'm pretty attached to my XIV character and I still wouldn't care. Unless they're truly being creepy about it, no big deal.
Now if someone is spamm you with tells demanding you to change to certain poses and such for their sake, yes, that's horrible. But just the fact that this exists and people MIGHT be looking at your character nude is not something to make a big deal out of.

(Besides the nude mod looks like trash, use something good like the Thavnarian dress mod lol)

The mod community is not getting out of control, OP. There's a few douchebags, yes, but don't put a gigantic spotlight on the mod community because of this. Rather than complain to the forums, report those who are harassing you in-game. As it stands, you are pretty much throwing a huge mod community under the bus over this.

No, but we are at the point where it's pretty clear that they are working themselves up over something that's simply not worth the bother. Thus my advice.

I'd say the solution is pretty simple.

1) In your search note in-game, add in, "I'm not interested in ERP." Feel free to add, "Please do not compliment my character's appearance."
2) If anyone asks you for ERP, report it as harassment since you already made a public note that you're not interested.
3) If you find pictures of your character naked on a Tumblr, report it as harassment/cyber bullying and let SE investigate it.

I think it's fine that you've started a thread to make people aware of the modding, OP, but at the same time, raising awareness is not about making yourself a victim. That just comes off as childish attention-seeking. Raising awareness is about letting people know the facts in an unbiased manner, which you failed to do in your original post. You made it about you, your personal discomfort, your personal experience. I'm sorry you've come to feel violated and paranoid about these mods and the people who use them, but you've done more to harm your intention of raising awareness than I think you realize.

It's a fine line we're walking here.

Mods are a breach of the ToS. But no player is admittedly going to shout from the rooftops "HEY I USE MODS TO MAKE EVERYONE'S CHARACTERS NAKED!" So, even if they're doing it to you, you'd probably never know. BUT if they start posting screenshots of your character nude or in compromising positions and such, and those screenshots get shared and passed around, THEN I would say it borders on harassment, because they're using it with the intention of causing you harm/discomfort.

But if SE were to take the ban-hammer and ban everyone who uses this particular mod, what's to prevent another, potentially worse one from taking its place? If anything that's not part of the core game is considered a mod, then those programs that overlay with peoples' DPS in a fight, or call out hunt mobs when you're in the area, are also mods and would be banned.

You see how it can snowball and get out of control? Stopping programs like this requires development time and resources -- time and resources that could be better spent on content.

Ehh.. Feast chat was, at times, pretty damn toxic. Still, I don't think they should've banned the whole chat...just cut out the toxic griefers.

MOD's are literally of no harm unless it gives the player an unfair advantage....or cheats the game.

Ugh QQ I used to play Feast quite a bit, and I understand why they did this tbh, but it hurt the quality of mathes so much I just left the mode alone. If you can't communicate in a mode like PvP, especially where communication can be key to winning or losing, whats the point?

Also "Nice Job!" spam is probably worse than cursing someone out at the end of a match lol.
