In the past I've always appreciated the effort in part by SE to make this game more of a living entity, really, truly.

But Oh My Gosh...

I have been back on FFXIV and I have barely killed 20 monsters. It's cutscene after cutscene after cutscene and what the heck is with all this Emotional music...???

Naturally the further back you are, the more of a slog it's going to feel like. But once you've caught up, it turns into a teeny tiny little content drip.

Unless you plan on playing a bunch of alts, you'll only have the slog once and then it's gone unless you leave for another 1-2 expansions worth of MSQ.

Given that once the story is done, all you'll be doing is killing monsters for the rest of time, I think you should forgive them for being light on the combat during the story.

There are a lot of not-so-great-filler-quests between the end of 2.0 and the real wrap up of ARR and the transition into HW.

But generally speaking: Yes, there will be quite a few cutscenes (personally I prefer this way of storytelling over standing around, reading speachbubbles while 30 people are surronding me, doing the same while runing my screenshots at the same time) - most of the time spiced up with either solo-instances, trials or dungeons, as usual...

I'm not sure how familiar you are with Final Fantasy as a series, but: This is kinda how it always has been. Storyheavy games with long cutscenes. I understand thats rather untypical for an MMO, but not for a Final Fantasy game - which can be boiled down to: Long cutscenes with epic music.

Now, the story gets better in both HW and SB, but if a story- and cutscene-focus isnt your cup of tea to begin with, I'm not sure if it will get better for you.

Honestly it's those dreadful 2.0 quest lol SE should really have a skip for those but once you get to 3.0 it's not that bad going through the story which is actually in my opinion the best story line of all the expansions besides coil of course...

Just fyi, even though you skip the msq, you will need to do the side quests, lvl your GC rank etc on your own. This also includes unlocking roulette, but should be easy if you're going to use a jump potion.

Yeah I leveled all my classes to 60 and unlocked everything up to half of HW, I just can't stand Susan Calloway or these soap opera-y scenes anymore.

It's draining.
