Mod users in FFXIV are getting out of control

I know it's not a perfect world and I know people will lie, but that doesn't mean we should accept it as the 'default.' Lying should always actively be discouraged--not tolerated.

If we really wanted to get into some kind of moral high-ground we could all argue about how if the nude mod doesn't represent people then that's implying that it's objectifying. And objectifying women as sex objects. People are basically arguing that the OP shouldn't get mad, because her avatar is basically a sex object, and she should be ok with that--because objects are not people. And her avatar isn't her. I can see why this thread is at 50 pages.

People are going to lie on the Internet. Only in a perfect world would they not. You may have a moral high ground not to, but not everyone shares that. Hence why you research and discern truths instead of just taking things at face value. Inb4 I am accused of encouraging lying, I am not. Just saying that this isn't a perfect world, and people are going to do it regardless of what you ask.

It's just a weird stance to take in a forum for discussion. It's essentially the "you must be great at parties" argument, as in you feel personally offended by someone's opinion but don't have one to counter it and instead use social pressure to shame. The fact you brought up making more money in the workplace, as if that has anything to do with anything on a forum for a videogame, just tells me you're not looking to have a conversation, just put people down.

I can see how you may have taken it that way: let me give you another story so you understand why I'm not going into details.

I am a very proud motorcycle racer. I also lift extremely heavy and look ripped. The other day at lunch, a colleague told me I should participate in sports. I told the colleague "I do, I race motorcycles." The colleague said "that's not a sport! It takes no physical exertion."

My ego was hit. The motorcycle weighs 500lbs. I'm constantly swinging that beast back and forth. If I'm ever actually sitting down, I am fully tucked in, similar to a full squat, to avoid the wind from dragging against my body at 300km/h. My average heart rate during a session is 170bpm. My calves and quads both run into fatigue issues because of the constant leaning off. So I told them "I sweat a lot and my heart rate is very high."

One colleague responded with "that's because of your adrenaline", and another said "that's because you're in full leathers." At this point I shut up and changed topics: one colleague is morbidly obese, the other was scrawny. If we were to take a physical fitness test I would destroy both of them without any effort. But what is the point of verbalizing any of this? The best outcome is that I've educated them in their wrong view of motorcycle racing at the expense of their pride and ego (most people do not like to admit when they are wrong.) This gains me absolutely nothing except possibly creating animosity.

It's not an ego. I'm asking that people don't lie and don't make up fake news. Caffeine is a drug. And anyone who thinks it's not is just an idiot. You shouldn't coddle idiots who want to make up their own definitions for stuff. Don't encourage lying for the sake of your ego by keeping friends.

Here is the original post I could have responded to. I wanted to, but I don't see the need to. Even if I manage to convince JackHatchet that his attitude will cause him nothing but pain and suffering, and explained why people lie/make up fake news, I'll have to deal with constant back and forth rebuttals involving subjects I've been pounding my head against for the last five months. It'd be like a variation of the arguments I was having within myself, and everyone else that has the same attitude JackHatchet is displaying.

What the **** do I have to gain from that? His comments bugged me enough that I wrote a minimal effort response to, maybe, convince him to adjust his thinking style. And because of that, I'm now writing a god damn half essay. Lose lose situation.

I do just want to mention, it's obviously different if they put pictures of your character with the nude mod and shove your name on it, with the intention of harassment. If they just do it, you can't exactly tell it's you. If they put your name on it, it's targeted.

If they did it on my character I would have a good laugh tbh :/

Of course doing so doesn't earn any friends because "You're ruining their fun" by taking the moral high ground and showing them a mirror where they're ugly. People break rules because they know the rules are not enforced. That is different from breaking rules because the rules are unjust (Eg rules made to prevent peaceful protest, journalism or "bedroom behavior".) Who really cares about what you do in your own private space as long as you don't bring someone else into it against their will.

And that is why graphical mods and third party tools are a problem, it breaks rules set by the software developer to ensure people play nice and fairly, they affect others because no consent is needed to operate them, and yet the very nature of the MMO game requires consent at all times. People go "oh it's only client sided", but it's not the second you post anything online that is a result of those mods or tools.

People going "it's only pixels" are the same people who complain about their identity being stolen after oversharing on facebook. Yeah, it's only pixels when you're not the victim.

That game avatar might be an extension of someone's personality, but people do put an important attachment on that identity, and if someone starts posting "Lala's gone Loli" pics using players who did not consent to it, then that person is no different than the perv who takes upskirt shots at the mall using the same logic of "if you don't know it exists, then it doesn't exist."
