Again, while I don't agree with the OP about what they posted, I don't believe that they are deserving of the harassment simply because of their post. Nor do I necessarily agree with the notion that they should've expected it. I've posted some wild things on the forums before - that doesn't mean I expect to get harassed in-game, and for the most part, I have not. Just because it's the Internet doesn't give people the right to act like complete jerks just because they can do it. And anybody who goes about this and says 'well, the OP deserved it for making the post in the first place' or 'it's the Internet, what did they expect' is almost as bad as those doing the harassing in the first place.

Again, I don't agree with the OP. But in-game harassment should never be acceptable, nor should people just go 'it should've been expected'. Just because you do things a certain way doesn't mean that everybody else will react in the same manner.

Or, what if the screenshot was, for example, photoshopped? This seems like an implausible scenario to me.
The minimum age required to play XIV is 13 so if this lady knows a bunch of 5-12 year olds running around they should probally get on reporting them. Second
From the ESRB site about xiv "Some female characters are depicted from low camera angles, with lingering camera views of their buttocks (i.e., up-skirt shots).Dialogue contains suggestive references; for example, "The netmaster's probably up in his office polishing the mast just thinking about her," "stick yer manhood in the forge," " I don't think I'd let my 5-12 year old play XIV on that alone.

I think OP at this point REALLY should just put the harassing tells into the first post so people understand the real core of the issue. It's not the mods, it's the harassment that has occurred because of the mods.

OP's original plight of wanting to get rid of mods altogether is silly, no denying that. Mods offer minor but cool experiences to the game that the game itself doesn't deliver on. There's no reason to take that away from players. But harassment as a result of people abusing these mods is a very valid thing to feel uncomfortable about, and really should be the main focus here.

No, a mod can't do nothing. The harassment occurs because stupidity knows no bounds and is going to happen no matter what. Block, report and move on with your life.

Anyway, I also wanted to add something: the "is just pixels" argument is a weak one that also works against you. If it's just pixel why bother to use mods at all? What's the point of adding certain stuff to make it "more real"? *Wink Wink* I'm really attached to my character and I prefer that people see her the same way I do and the idea of people using mods and altering that is not something I like. But since there is nothing I can do about I just going to move on with my life.

Well, that's up to OP and deciding the direction they want to take with this thread. You yourself admit that the thread's original purpose is silly; all the outrage and the silly drama about "Oh it's like everybody around me has X-Ray eyes!" has only made any real issues related to mod-based harassment worse, because less people take them seriously.

Besides which, harassment is harassment is harassment. Instead of drawing the line in the sand on mods, why not a thread asking for stricter harassment responses, or better responses on harassment reporting? Because ingame chat, ingame emotes, ingame dungeons, ingame pvp, parsers, mods, and a whole host of other things are potential sources for harassment.

People mod for all sorts of reasons other than to make things "more real". They mod tails so that people can play as whatever animal race they want. They mod outfits to fit their particular taste in clothing and apparel design. They mod weapons because there are particular things about a weapon they'd like changed.

The other thing is, I consider there to be a large difference between telling someone "It's just pixels" when they're actually afraid of their character being seen naked, and telling someone "It's just pixels" when they take a mod to "dye" something that in game is undyeable.

Probably the smartest thing anyone can do regarding this tbh. While I have a different outlook on things than you, perhaps because as a MCH I see a different view of my character and their weapon than everyone else in the game anyway (Gauss Barrel is off), I respect that you feel differently about it.

If SE sees it as a real issue. They could always force a client side data check every few days, where it would detect a mod on the file and redown load the original. But there is no real fix. As you said its all client side.

I will offer my apologies to the OP. I'm sorry you felt so harassed by certain individuals following this post you had to completely change your character.
Nobody should ever feel that way or have to do that. It's your game, your character and you should be able to play it as and how you wish. Some may not agree with certain aspects but I'd hate to feel like my views on here ever had me have to change anything. Nobody deserves that.
I gather that is the issue. Less so the mods, afterall I'd say nobody would ever know people can see your character naked unless they tell you. So on that I'm less fussed about it but if people were whispering me about how they were using mods on my character and being a pain, yea. Not cool.

My point was that people do it because is it important for them in one way or another so at the end of the day is more "than just pixels". I can't for the life of my play Skyrim without modding, I need my character looking in a certain way or I will enjoy the game less (now you also know why I don't agree with "is just cosmetics").

Anyway, I understand your point, but to me, the problem is the OP caring for something her/him don't have any control over it and not "just pixels".

I don't know anything about such mods.
