Gotta love browsing Reddit and getting smacked in the face with pics of female Au'ra genitalia.
Even if you were not looking for them.

Evidently, you aren't browsing reddit since the r/ffxiv subreddit requires you to label NSFW posts and allows you to hide/disable searching for them.
Bluntly stated, they cannot do anything but ask us nicely not to mod. Since everything is client side, they have no way of detecting edits to textures. Hence why ACT and even bots continue without much done about either. Even if they were to implement a zero tolerance policy come the LL, modders just keep quiet and go about as they please. If SE decides to listen to these whiners and actually takes action against players using mods, despite it being in every other MMO, I will without second thoughts quit the game. Not because I won’t be able to use mods anymore, that is part of it but I did play this game for 3 years without them, but because it would be both hilarious and sad if they would side with this minority of people who are trying to be loud and bring attention to this. Logic “I don’t like this so you can’t like/have it either” seriously buffles my mind.

One thing I think we should all clear up before we go on, Miqo’te = furry. Embrace your fursona, so what is your fursona?
Not being true to oneself rubs me the wrong way.
You guys have got to be kidding me.....
I like to think of my character as an extension of myself. My character represents me. It doesn't represent itself. It doesn't have intelligence. It's a mask. And my mask represents me. With that said. Knowing that there are mods that make 'certain' armor invisible and depict nudity I will go out of my way to avoid wearing that gear. Luckily, it's only like 20 or so outfits that are modified, so it's not too crazy.
I can understand the OP's complaint that it feels like some agency is being stolen from them. That they're losing the control on whether they represent themselves as a modest person or if their character is being portrayed as a naked exhibitionist. In a world where we have so very little control over so much of what affects us--it's insulting to have yet another freedom stripped away in that sense. We no longer choose how our characters are represented in the game-world, because someone else broke the ToS and made that decision for us. We don't have the freedom to decide when we'll appear naked, because someone has already stripped us down.
-------------
With all the above mentioned, I still enjoy the concept of nudity and customization features in a game. But I think they should be base-line. The game should allow nudity. And it should allow people to customize and design outfits, and then maybe sell them in some kind of player store. I don't know. I like the idea that all armor and gear looks EXACTLY the same on everyone's machine. But I would love for ways for players to introduce their own creative designs in a way that doesn't degrade the way we choose to represent ourselves.

On another thought, being nieve to these mods. If you can change the appearance of clothes this opens up a whole new world of glamour.... you could literally recreate any character you want? And this is against the terms of conduct is it?
Must look really bad with the current engine 14 has. Any in-game private part is always ugly and feels repulsive (might just be me), now on the other hand, if you show me a good hentai art...
Edit : I just saw it...lol its so bad.

Ok, so let me get this correct:
The main complaint here are there are mods that individuals can install (that are against the ToS mind you) that all them to view all characters in the game as graphically nude. That is butts hanging out among other things.
There is no way to detect if someone else has this mod. This mod does not impact your interaction with the game in a direct manner. This mod is a problem because it is the thought that someone else might be seeing a character you have created in a game in their birthday suit is a problem.
Is this really where were getting at now?
Ok, the mod is probably illegal, but theres no way for SE to pragmatically enforce people to not use it. Furthermore, it only turns a fictional avatar you have made nude, it does not make you personally nude. Nor does this alter your experience with the game seeing as ONLY the person with the mod views the content, and no one else. At this point, the complaint amounts to the idea of someone possibly having seen yoru character nude and you personally find that unsettling. Thats it. To which most people have replied already : Get over it.
Simply enough, the OP is letting an idea or possibility bother them, not that the reality of hte situation. Youre character isnt actually nude. Its not showing up on your screen. Its someone using a mod that alters the game to display somethign different on their screen. You have no idea this is happening, but its the potential someone MIGHT be doing this that is bothering you. I mean, I have to ask this: Are you bothered that somewhere out there, there might be DRAWINGS of your character naked? You dont know after all. It may or may not even be on the internet, but therse a potential that someone somewhere drew your character in the buff (and probably doing scandalous things too). Does that idea not bother you?
Yes, the mod is a bit scummy in nature, in the sense do people really need to be walking around looking at peoples junk. Its kind of pathetic in that regard, but again, the issue you put forward is kind of silly. You really need to let it be and just put it out of mind.

Someone else explained it earlier. If it was something specifically installed that ran with the game, I'm pretty sure SE could detect that. What these mods do is to essentially overwrite existing files in the game's directory to alter the appearances. My guess is this would allow someone to, say, make the racial starting gear get replaced with mods that give men ripped/hairy chests, pants that give them genitalia, mods that remove the bra from female chests and give them more definition, remove the undies from their pants to again add definition...
So, theoretically, if I understand it right, someone COULD mod the starter gear to look like stuff off the Mogstation since all the files are there. Or the latest raid gear.
I think it's more like an editing program than a mod. That's my guess.
I just don't see the point in it since even if you mod it so racial starting gear looks like the latest raiding stuff, everyone else still see's you as a scrub in starting gear.
