With that logic, anyone who plays a Lala and gets upset about the Lala jokes shouldn't have rolled one in the first place, otherwise they are asking for it.

See how back assward that is?

100% this. Their mod affects OP in literally zero ways. He can't see what they see. As long as no one is being harassed, let people be.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

People are carelessly using them. Take note of the screenshot threads where models clearly have textures that don't exist in the game.

The Naked/Lewd mods are something I knew always existed (that's literately the first thing that modders do, with every game.)

Or change your character to Lalafell. I highly doubt there are any mods involving Lalafells... right? Right?
    They definitely exist.

Because people with 4 8TB drives would take literately hours to scan for unauthorized tools.

There are ways of detecting mods, hacks, unauthorized tools, but they all come back to "you can not trust the game client". The easiest, cheapest strategy is to checksum the files with the launcher, and report the server is not available if the checksums don't match. The harder/smarter solution requires the game client sending game geometry/textures back to the server when you change your gear, and having an out-of-bound process on the server to test those checksums against known files. That can be done to specifically look for mods that damage the game's reputation.

For tools that inject into the game binary or sniff the network traffic, those are harder to directly detect, and instead are defeated by not sending data to the game client that it doesn't need, and having the server flag suspicious data (Eg hunt trackers) that are faster than the user could possibly type it out.

But ultimately fighting a war on mods just makes people quit the game, especially when Square-Enix has not actively cracked down on anything.

Those people who are careless and posting about mods they use to the official forums, especially screenshots with the mods active, should not be surprised if one day they can't login to the game.

Are you actually being harassed by people? Are they actually posting lewd screenshots of your character online on their Twitters, Tumblrs, Instagram, etc.? If so, how are you aware of this? Did they tell you? Did they sent you a link to these pictures via /tell? Is any of this actually happening to you or someone you know, or are you just spreading fear?

You cannot control what other people do. If people really wanted to make lewd pictures of your character, they could always just use Photoshop. Are we to have that banned as well? Most modders mod so that they can enjoy the game; they don't use it as an avenue to purposely harass other people. Unless you are being purposely targeted and harassed, why do you care? Why get all up in arms about something that literally doesn't affect you?

Apples to oranges. There is a huge difference between a virtual character that is not real and yourself. Someone posting a picture of your character modded to be naked is completely different than someone posting an actual picture of you naked in real life. Learn the difference: one is pixels and isn't real, the other is.

If people are actively sending you harassing tells and links to pictures or whatever, just report them and the GMs will deal with them. If they were saying lewd things in-game, easy enough to temp ban (or perma-ban if it's not the first offense) them right there; there's no need for third-party website screenshots. But don't start a crusade to punish everyone who mods because not everyone acts like those select few do. Many mod for their own enjoyment and don't care about what other people's toons look like on their screen: they do it for the sake of their own toon. I disagree with this "punish everyone because a few people were being twats" mentality.

While disappointing, this isn't surprising. Personally I'm not going to feel violated over this because I'm not my character, and unless they're going out of their way to mod-up textures for every single individual character in FFXIV, I get the feeling any given texture mod is going to make all naked <insert race here> look the same as each other minus their character creation details, basically all but taking my head and sticking it on someone's idea of a naked body. The harassment thing is awful though, I would blacklist and report if it happens to me.

On the upside, it's nice to know that no matter how bad you are at something in this game, there's always these people to occupy a lower rung on the ladder.

Seriously? It’s pixels.... who cares. If someone enjoys seeing a bunch of naked characters running around that’s their choice and I personally couldn’t care less if they are seeing my char naked since, well, it’s not actually me. If this stuff is client side then it is what it is anyway. I mean it seems like you’d have to go out of your way looking for things that annoy you to even know this is a thing. If someone is verbally harassing you, you can report them and/or just blacklist, but otherwise just get on with your day. No sense dwelling on someone else’s choices in how they see the game that don’t actually effect you.

If someone is allegedly posting nude pics of my character.... again how would one even know about this? Also I still wouldn’t care. It’s pixels. And obviously there would be other ways for someone to do that without using some nude mod in their game if they were so inclined. This mod literally doesn’t affect anyone. Live and let live and stop digging around for trouble and trying to find stuff that irritates you.

I don’t get it. Aren’t mods only client side? If you were nude to someone, there would be no way for you to know besides if they told you. If they’re secretly perving on you, chances are they won’t be telling you. If this post is raising concern about how someone could hypothetically be seeing your character nude, then that’s some severe paranoia. I’d understand the concern if someone random creep was sending tells saying, “I can see ur boobies teehee.” But if there’s no way to really prove that your character is naked on someone’s screen, then I just don’t see how you can worry about it.

    Ehh... I agree and disagree.

You can like a race's appearance for reasons beyond standards of beauty/attractiveness, but at the same time, one has to accept responsibility for their choices. Take WoW, for example. I met very few players who didn't understand that rolling a Blood Elf was going to result in instant hate from a lot of, "True," Horde players. When players rolled a female Draenei, they were quite well aware, for the most part, about the various jokes and views about them.

If you're going to roll in this game what is largely seen as the, "Waifu," race/gender combination, then you should be prepared for how people are going to view said character.

I certainly didn't pick male miqo'te thinking that I WOULDN'T be stereotyped as various things. I like how they look and I also figured people would judge me for my choice. Can't say I care what people think but when someone drops a dumb comment like, "Are you a furry," I just shrug because I expected to get questions like that the minute I made the character.

One can't change how people will behave or perceive things. One can adapt and prepare for it.

This was a comment from a page back.

Some people push it, which isn't cool.

Just to clarify my own opinion, I think going after the modding community as a whole is not the way to go about it. Most people are discreet and go about their business. I am however a bit disappointed with some of the replies in this thread that are trying to blame the OP as if they've brought this upon themself whilst seemingly giving those who may harass a free pass.
