I've noticed basically any time I do stuff to help the healer or tank (i.e. Mana Shift, using Feint on a big damage ability) so far I'm generally guaranteed at least one commend.

Gotcha! All I am trying to get across is that the increase in comms might not necessarily be because you're running as SCH.Feel like you're taking me more seriously than I intended to come across as. I think I'm an above average healer though probably really rusty on WHM since I haven't touched it since getting it to 70. Said it a few times that I simply find it funny that I tend to come out of an instance with commends more often as a SCH than as my AST
For me personally, I couldn't say which of my healers has received more comms. I don't even know how many total comms I have because it just isn't something I keep track of, so I am probably not the best person to respond to your question anyway. However, even though I don't keep track of the total number, I still love getting them. I always get a little irked when I know I kicked butt, and get nothing lol.
I get more comms on BLM, which is my main class, than my others simply for the fact that I don't play much else unless I'm leveling other jobs. And I swear...I must be getting pity comms as a bard and ninja (more so on bard), because I am a TERRIBLE bard. Sadly, I'm only getting it to 70 for the sake of getting it to 70 and then I'm dropping bard like a hot Lalafell in a pot of boiling water.

Can't help it, but it is always to a player who I know is trying, having DC issues, etc.
I wouldn't know if a DPS is messing up their rotation even if it slapped me in the face. I only know that things die fast, or things die slow.
I get the most as a healer, which is my main. After that, it's probably RDM, because I'm liberal with stuff like raise and mana shift. I get the least on tanks I find, but I also don't think I'm particularly good at tanking. (I can hold stuff and use cooldowns, but the DPS end of it isn't my thing.)

I only play as tank really and almost never get comms for reasons that I have a pretty good guess why. I've asked parties to rate me/tell me what I need to improve at, and so far every group I've asked has told me I "did good" and "they didn't see any areas I could do better at", and on two cases have even had the healer tell me I was one of the best tanks they've ever had to heal for, so I do think I'm not half bad at tanking. So why do I rarely get any comms? Simple: "The tank gets tons of comms, being a tank and all, and the other members are going to comm them for this run too, so I'm going to give mine to the healer/DPS" thinks all party members at once believing their the only one doing it. And in the end, the tank leaves with none. Or at least I hope that's how it is and people aren't just lying to me.
I honestly haven't ran much of anything since 4.0 started cause my will to tank things is mostly burned out after 5 years of doing nothing but it. I need a vacation. /sigh
burn out is real, first thing I did when I figured out that I was experiencing that was shifted roles to Bard rather than doing healing for a whole other expansion. It worked for awhile till I just got fully burnt out and had to take a few months break. After coming back I noticed that while I still love my Bard, I do tend to queue as healers more often. Noticed that your listed class for the forum is PLD, if that's what you're running mostly, have you used the others recently to get a semi-different taste of tanking? Personally didn't like the more spellcasting they added to PLD so I've swapped to DRK for my tank class
I get more on my alt job(s). My main is a dps, so go figure. XD
Definately as my off class. I started on MCH, but find I get way more comms when I play SCH .. unless people are in a group and I'm on whatever class at the time.
I mean, it honestly surprises me when I get a comm playing DPS. Even when I'm really bad. I did finally get the 500 comm golden magitek armour mount not too long ago, so it's possible!
I've swapped my main around with each expansion, but I definitely get more comms on Healer or Tank than DPS.
