Checking version doesn't work

I have been trying to log into FFXIV for the past half hour now and I can't. Everytime I launch FFXIV it comes up saying checking current version, and gets stuck on there for about 2 minutes than a error comes up saying that the checking version timed out please try again later. Been trying for half an hour now is anyone else having this problem? Is it something with the server or is there something wrong with maybe one of the patches and its corrupted and would i have to fix it?

silly question, but if you're running windows have you tried running FFXIV as admin? I get those issues when I don't.

tried running as admin, keeps happening idk what to do, i guess just wait and actually do what the error message says? id be more pissed off if 30 rock wasnt on.

Let me try and log in now. If I can get in, I really have no clue and you're best waiting for someone a bit more knowledgeable to poke their head in. Sorry. :<

still no go /sigh, o well this is what 30 rock, and gears of war 3 is for. Aslo tomorrow i getting FFXIII-II so its not that maddening lol. also um................wtf is up with your sig? it is very scary

and rofl, the sig is a thing of beauty. It's a long story, but it's a darkcreepyhorribleband that decided they were bored and created an alter ego band called My Dragon. They released that video as a joke, and I'm getting a bit obsessed with it because it's pretty hilarious. The best thing about this sig is that no matter what I listen to, they dance in time with it, therefore making my itunes playlist hilarious by default. I'm easily amused I guess. I'd link you to 'em but the video isn't that worksafe and I can't see the forum staff being that happy.

and yeah, they're visual kei. If you're familiar with the genre, My Dragon are actually Kiryu while making fun of visual kei. It's beautiful.
