My thoughts on what makes a good player does not much concern what they have cleared or not.
To me a good player is one who knows their job, and does not make major mistakes too often. A good player is always willing to learn and improve.
They do not start drama or throw shit on other players.

Someone who has the skills needed to clear the hardest content, but has a bad attitude towards other players, that is not a good player.

I agree with everything said here, and going to add my two cents. Not only should a player know their job, but if they do screw up they own up to it. We all make mistakes, but don't do something like blame the healer for having to make smaller pulls because you failed to pull above your weight class and the party wiped. The other thing is while players should be open to learning, don't be a jerk and shove your advice down another person's throat. Keep the level of content in mind, or in short don't freak out about someone's rotation when you are in a random roulette pug.

In my opinion a good player is simply someone with both the willingness and capacity to learn on his own (mentally and physically).

A player that can follow a guide and clear content is not necessarily a good player. A player that can wipe the party but with every successive attempt will get better is a good player.

As such, "pioneers" are good players by this definition. If they manage to find the solution to the problem of "how to kill this new boss" then they show the capacity to learn on their own.

That being said, using guides and such is a trait of a dedicated and/or respectful player. Playing with a respectful but bad player is still better than with a disrespectful good player...well, most of the time.
