Anyone who doesn't waste my time by lying about their progress in raids is a good player in my book.

I suppose a good player in my book would be someone who knows the fundamentals of the game at least and can understand the mechanics for most fight since they get re-used quite a lot. They're not perfect, but not terrible either, and they always continue to find ways to improve themselves. If mistakes are made, they own up to it. If someone else makes a mistake, they don't badger or tell that person in such a way that it would be clearly seen as offensive or insulting. We're all not perfect, shit happens sometimes.

A good player knows the role of their job and looks through their abilities, understanding them in-depth enough to pull their weight without being too much of a burden on the other party members. They're not Savage tier, but they're not new either. A good player has a decent attitude and the skills to not be a deadweight.

A great player is someone who has cleared the final tier of current Savage and/or Ultimate Coil to me.

-A player who understands the job they're playing. They don't need to be perfect, but they should know basic things like how/when to AoE and the bare bones of their single target rotation.
-A player who understands the fight or is quick to pick up and adapt if they are not.
-A player who uses their support abilities (Goad, MP shift, Diversion, Foe's, ect).
-A player who is friendly (chatty if the party is chatty or even just saying hello and thanks for the run).
-A player who tries to defuse drama if it occurs rather than make it worse or staying silent.
-A player who is willing to admit when they made a mistake, apologize, and correct it.
-A player who is willing to learn (ask questions, take advice, try something different).
-A player who goes out of their way to help make things easier (those healers who pick up keys, open doors, go down side trails to get chests. Love those guys).
-A player who speaks up if they're new/doesn't lie about not being new (I guess this is mostly a PF thing).

You don't need to be a raider. You don't need to be perfect. Basically as long as you're not a PoS, are willing to learn, and help others, then you're a good player.

Being 'a good player' really depends on context of the situation you are in IMHO.

    Same as sport really.

A good player is somebody who can clear the minimum of 'challenging' content (savage raids).

A top player is somebody who can clear ultimate.

Example in sport: Nr 1 is the winner (top player). NR 2 and 3 are not winners but they are not bad (good players).

A good player isn'a bad player I guess.
So they use their skills, know how their job works. Learns from mistakes by self teaching or from being "called out" and doesn't bail. Theyre willing to learn basically.
They don't make life difficult for others.
They might not necessary have the most optimum rotation going but they're tanking/healing/dpsing and we are killing enemies and clearing the dungeon without much hassle.
-Tank loses enmity? So what. Probably my fault as diversion was on cooldown and I forgot to pop Lucid. We still killed it and moved on with no hassle.
-Healer let DPS die as they were DPSing too? No biggie, just swiftraise and we carry on as we were. That's why those two skills are there after all and well done healer for DPSing too.
-DPS isn't hitting an optimum rotation but is still throwing AOE and using their arsenal and we are killing everything? Cool. So what if we spent 47 seconds more on that section between bosses because your rotation was wrong or you used X instead of Y then. I don't mind. I'm here to have fun and not stress over stuff like that.
I consider myself a good player but then I haven't touched a single savage nevermind ultimate fight. Does that mean I'm untested and subsequently an awful player? I doubt it.

Clear the content or not, the only time for me you're a bad player is when you go out of your way to make the experience painful for everyone involved.

They do not start drama or throw shit on other players.

Someone who has the skills needed to clear the hardest content, but has a bad attitude towards other players, that is not a good player.
    Basically these

Here's the properties I expect out of a good player:

    1. Able to correctly evaluate their own skill level. This is harder than it sounds, as shown by how many people think they're elite DPS until they run into someone with a parser. As someone who is nowhere near close to elite DPS, there's nothing wrong with that until you start acting like you're top dog and then need to be carried.
    2. Carry their own weight for whatever content they're running. You're part of a team, at the end of the day, and good players don't tend to get carried (although we all have an off day sometimes). That means in levelling roulette you should be geared appropriately and active (looking at you, Shire tanks in Castrum Abania), in expert you should know your rotation and execute it reasonably, and if you show up in a savage two chest weekly clear party, then know what you're doing and be capable of savage level DPS.
    3. Take feedback. If you can do #1 correctly, you should recognize when good advice is being offered. Listen to it, and evaluate it later. Don't get defensive, because usually people offering advice mean well.
    4. Have situational awareness and put the group first. If four people including one of the healers just ate something and died, don't be the BLM that stands in stuff because "mah deeps!" A good player will realize that the one healer still standing is pretty busy and doesn't need someone making it worse by taking avoidable damage at a bad time.
    5. Isn't a dick to the group. There's more than enough salt in alliance roulette already without adding more arguments, especially when people are already unhappy that the group managed to wipe in LotA. A good player will post a funny macro instead, or apologize if they caused the wipe (you'd be amazed how well that works), or even just keep quiet if they have nothing useful to add. Anything except adding more arguments. And for the love of everything holy, they won't be arguing with people in the middle of an encounter.
    6. Use their kit appropriately. That means RDMs will Raise (or Cure if it's necessary because of a healer DC), healers will DPS when they can, tanks will use group defensive buffs like Divine Veil, etc.

You'll notice my list is pretty heavy on being a good team player, and very light on "must have cleared X with Y percentile". That's because "good" is relative. If the hardest content you ever want to run is expert, you do that competently, and you're fun to group with? Then you're good at what you're doing in my books.

Now if you're talking about who the top skilled players are? There's a website for that.

Tanks that mitigate... healers that add esuna to thier hotbars. dps that doesnt pull for tank.

But really honestly good players to me are the kind that accept when wipes happen, joke around about it but continue to try and follow what's going on and improve.

good players listen when somethings going on in the chat box and follow advice.

following the simple mechanics can get a com from me even if the players a dps.
