I would say that a good player is someone I'd want to play with again.

This definition encompasses a certain skill requirement, but that's not entirely sufficient - there's also an emphasis on politeness, friendliness, an awareness of others. Courtesy, if you will. It's the tank who doesn't pull above their weight class - and also doesn't pull above the overall class of their party. It's the ranged DD who pays attention to their healer's MP levels, and Refreshes as needed - even if the healer could have managed their own MP better. It's the healer who contributes damage as often as they're comfortable with, because they know that it eases the burden on their party, and that's a good enough reason in and of itself. Hell, it's the person who bothers saying 'Hi' at the beginning of the run, and doesn't roll Need on gear just because they can.

I think an equivalent definition could be, someone who is primarily motivated by the perceptions of others, rather than centered around themselves.

Bonus opinion: whilst clearly not sufficient, a necessary requirement for a good game developer is recognizing that a 1000-character limit on posts is evil.

I would consider someone who has beat top content to be a skilled player, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are a good player.

Since this is an MMO, I would say that to be considered a good player, you should be decent at your job, but also a team player. Seems a lot of people in this game have the skill, but they absolutely suck at personal interaction. You're not playing a single-player game, and we're not NPCs. Be decent to the people you play with.

A good player know that nobody is perfect and can accept and give tips and is constantly searching ways to learn more to master it's role.

a good player is someone who can push buttons and doesn't think that paying their sub entitles them to waste other people's time

A Good Player is one who doesn't wipe the party/alliance. A Good player will do mechanics, and even if their new, they can learn as they go (on the fly). A Good player will not tank groups of mobs in dps stance and use cooldowns effectively. A Good player will not only heal the party to ensure victory but will also contribute to damage output and make the runs go faster. A Good player will not prepull the boss before the tank goes to grab it. A Good player does what's best for the team (party) not just for him/herself.

Last, but certainly not least, a Good player is not a ***k. Treat others the way you want to be treated.

I define a good player solely by their attitude.

Taking my context from where I am the raid tank in a WoW raiding group right now... and where I used to run a guild for 4 years long in the past...

A good player isn't the one that comes to me with top skills.

A good player is instead one that sticks with the group through the learning process of new content, provides good feedback when we fail that helps us progress further, and provides positive motivation for the group. They are not 'negative' in their attitude, and they don't 'jump ship' the moment we hit a wall.

These days over in WoW, a single wipe on a single boss and you can be sure half of the PUG people you brought in will vanish... - that is my definition of a bad player. No willingness to work through the content. Too quick to judge. To quick to give up.

A good player holds back judgement, has patience, and doesn't get emotional when blocks arise. They stick it out, and help people without being condescending.

None of that has to do with how skilled that player is when I get them, it has everything to do with how skilled they have the potential to be, as a result of being a team player.

And that remains constant in any MMO, and at any point during progress.

Anyone who doesn't waste my time by lying about their progress in raids is a good player in my book.

I suppose a good player in my book would be someone who knows the fundamentals of the game at least and can understand the mechanics for most fight since they get re-used quite a lot. They're not perfect, but not terrible either, and they always continue to find ways to improve themselves. If mistakes are made, they own up to it. If someone else makes a mistake, they don't badger or tell that person in such a way that it would be clearly seen as offensive or insulting. We're all not perfect, shit happens sometimes.

A good player knows the role of their job and looks through their abilities, understanding them in-depth enough to pull their weight without being too much of a burden on the other party members. They're not Savage tier, but they're not new either. A good player has a decent attitude and the skills to not be a deadweight.

A great player is someone who has cleared the final tier of current Savage and/or Ultimate Coil to me.

-A player who understands the job they're playing. They don't need to be perfect, but they should know basic things like how/when to AoE and the bare bones of their single target rotation.
-A player who understands the fight or is quick to pick up and adapt if they are not.
-A player who uses their support abilities (Goad, MP shift, Diversion, Foe's, ect).
-A player who is friendly (chatty if the party is chatty or even just saying hello and thanks for the run).
-A player who tries to defuse drama if it occurs rather than make it worse or staying silent.
-A player who is willing to admit when they made a mistake, apologize, and correct it.
-A player who is willing to learn (ask questions, take advice, try something different).
-A player who goes out of their way to help make things easier (those healers who pick up keys, open doors, go down side trails to get chests. Love those guys).
-A player who speaks up if they're new/doesn't lie about not being new (I guess this is mostly a PF thing).

You don't need to be a raider. You don't need to be perfect. Basically as long as you're not a PoS, are willing to learn, and help others, then you're a good player.

Being 'a good player' really depends on context of the situation you are in IMHO.
