    Define a good player

Seems the urge to have unusual, but good discussions is strong in me, because I have the urge to throw another one out for the forums. For the last few months, I've been trying to figure out what a good player really is. My own thoughts on it are the ones who have completed Ultimate and God Kefka. For the matter, I do not consider myself a good player, because I have not completed these things or get blue parses (yes, I am aware that I will not achieve that now - but the reference point I was making was before players started getting their BiS and I did not measure up those standards prior to March). So what do you guys personally define as a good player? By your own standards, that is, not one that is drawn up by the community or by the meta.

For a little additional context, just recently, I was just tanking a run and near the end of the dungeon, I lost aggro on one enemy after a pull. Only time I lost aggro at any point in the dungeon (it was a level 70 dungeon), but to me, that's a complete failure on my part as a tank. I've been told I did good as a tank despite that, but my standards as opposed to what others may view seems to differ, so because I lost aggro once, I feel like I was a bad tank. Just for context. I'm not asking for advice or shoulder pats or none of that. I just want to know what you guys think is a good player. It can be overall, or role-specific. I just wanna know.

To note, I don't think a good player is one who had completed Ultimate or God Kefka, by definition. For me, a good player is one who can competently play their role and clear content without causing distress to the players around them. Clear the content or not, the only time for me you're a bad player is when you go out of your way to make the experience painful for everyone involved.

To me a good player is one who knows their job, and does not make major mistakes too often. A good player is always willing to learn and improve.
They do not start drama or throw shit on other players.

Someone who has the skills needed to clear the hardest content, but has a bad attitude towards other players, that is not a good player.
    Basically these

I agree with everything said here, and going to add my two cents. Not only should a player know their job, but if they do screw up they own up to it. We all make mistakes, but don't do something like blame the healer for having to make smaller pulls because you failed to pull above your weight class and the party wiped. The other thing is while players should be open to learning, don't be a jerk and shove your advice down another person's throat. Keep the level of content in mind, or in short don't freak out about someone's rotation when you are in a random roulette pug.

In my opinion a good player is simply someone with both the willingness and capacity to learn on his own (mentally and physically).

A player that can follow a guide and clear content is not necessarily a good player. A player that can wipe the party but with every successive attempt will get better is a good player.

As such, "pioneers" are good players by this definition. If they manage to find the solution to the problem of "how to kill this new boss" then they show the capacity to learn on their own.

That being said, using guides and such is a trait of a dedicated and/or respectful player. Playing with a respectful but bad player is still better than with a disrespectful good player...well, most of the time.

I would define a good player as someone who has a strong understanding of the game foundations and mechanics and can adapt to different situations as they arise and respond appropriately for their job. They would also have a positive attitude towards the game and the players they play with and be open to helping when prompted to.

Being able to clear the hardest tiers of content would be nice but I wouldn't use that metric to define a good player either. I've seen plenty of good players who acutely understand their job and the content we're participating in just running through 24 mans, PFing EX Trials, or EXDR. These players don't have any Savage tier gear or any recorded Savage logs, but I would trust them to run that content with me if I need to find someone.

A good player is one that takes creative criticism and keeps an open mind to improving.

Is able to keep up with their job, uses CD, and is well prepared both in game and can keep communication productive.

Essentially, a good player is someone who tries to do the best they can, can recognize when they aren't and change, can own their mistakes rather than try to blame someone else, can listen to feedback without getting needlessly defensive, and has enough patience to recognize that no one plays perfectly 100% of the time and sometimes you just have to try again.

Good responses thus far. I meant to add this in, but you know...mobile phone problems and all. I don't apply my view towards other players. Even in wipe parties, I don't really regard other players as bad. I'll get frustrated, depending on what happened, but I tend to view others as being better than me, unless they are a sprout, in which case, I'm very lenient with mistakes they may make.
