What Does Your Character Mean to You?

My character is basically an archetype that I use in all the MMOs I play. She's usually an androgynous, dark-skinned, silver/white-haired woman who could be mistaken as a male because she stays clothed. I've always made my characters this way since I began playing MMOs yeeeeeears ago. Growing up as a huge anime fan, I was always drawn to characters like this...like Urd from "Ah My Goddess" or Ansem from "Kingdom Hearts."

I've been using Rael Levynfang since ARR day one back in 2013. The name Rael means "child of light." Levyn is is another name for lightning. She originally started as a Miqote which is where the Fang part comes in but I stuck with it because it sounds cool.

I never was into making "myself" as a playable character. In general I'm not a fan of self inserting.

Instead, I usually make a character based off of character ideas I have running through my head for my own story or ideas (that surely will never go anywhere lol).

^^This. When I was very young, and the concept of playing a game with a customizable character was first introduced to me, I usually made a character that resembled me. As I got older, I realized how boring that was. The only thing about my characters that remain consistent with my irl appearance, is that I have dark skin, so I usually make my characters with dark skin as well. Do I have bright blue hair and piercing grey eyes irl? Nope! But it sure would look neat in a game!

made her and she is not me, she is herself on her own character and on her own epic story. iam just there as invisible "third person" or "guardian" who continue watch her story and adventure.

My characters are just that: characters. They have no relation to me whatsoever.

They do mean a lot to me though because I enjoy putting the time and consideration into their design and "personalities" which are in turn reflected in their glamours and classes. I have a lot of characters but only play one actual job on each one of them as I prefer adding that drop of realism into the mix as the whole "multi-job" thing only came across to me as a gameplay gimmick rather than an actual thing in the lore. Mind though, I imagine these all as "normal" characters and not the actual Warriors of Light, nor do I imagine them as being the super special Jobs variants of their class, but simply the class itself (so while I play a Bard, I imagine the character as a simple archer).

And a bunch more on some other servers that I am sure I have screens of SOMEWHERE...!


Naturally, my main handles all the crafting and gathering as that is purely unrelated to the characters at any level and I am not insane or anything.

She was just a character type I had in mind when I created her, mixed with a sort of coincidental "this looks interesting" spark, and everything she's done since just sort of refined how I viewed her, though with no conflict to that original impression.
