How would you like to see your job come into its own?

I have been a fan of the series for ages now, with the class job system in ffxiv was a good idea but they needed to be unconstrained, with that being stated i feel like some jobs need to break the mold that ARR gave them.

gladiators to paladin make no sense to me other than sword and board. they thematically make sense they should have had knight a class that could have branched to pld or drk as they are opposed to each other but carry the same base.

dragoons after HW should gain a young dragon companion to show partnership between Dravidia and Ishguard.

Conjurer makes very little correlation with a white mage how ever geomancer or summoner make far more.
so my question to all this thread is how would you like to see your jobs be reworked or evolved to meen the job they stand for in the full final fantasy series?

As far as I know, in the Japanese client, The PLD is known as "Knight". If it was a Paladin, I would have loved the job to be more like Cecil, with more healing capabilities (Esuna, Cure, Raise, Protect) on top of their tankiness.

I still think it should go:
    Pugilist > Ninja
    Monk > Samurai

I dont agree with a street fighter being the stepping stone to a Monk, or a rouge being the jumpoff to a full blown Ninja

To be fair, both are forms of assassins/thieves, so it at least somewhat thematically makes sense.

Yeah I'm in agreement there, and I see the light connection they were going for, but it feels like a stretch for me.

Monk should likely be the ultimate form of enlightenment, no longer needing weapons.

In fairness PLD did use to have raise, protect, stoneskin and clemency. RIP cross-role actions.

I don't have much to offer in way of discussion, though. Creativity is not my strong suit, and since I've played pretty much all the FF games it doesn't bother me that each iteration of similar jobs is a bit different than the last.

Yeah, they did. Though the cure was awful because it was still MND-based, Protect was not as effective as the WHM's one (same with Stoneskin) and you couldn't raise people in combat.

I feel like they did a decent job explaining the jump from GLD to PLD in the lore. Gladiators participate in fights on the Blood Sands, and the best of those gladiators are chosen to become the Sultan Sworn.

As far as job functionality goes, I absolutely adore Clemency, as well as the various party protection abilities like Divine Veil and Passage of Arms. Even when we had access to CNJ cross-class abilities, I never felt as much like what I feel a PLD should be as I need after these abilities were added. Plus Goring Blade and Royal Authority (and now Requiescat and Holy Spirit) make playing the job so much more entertaining than the boring 1,2,3 combo we used to have. My only regret is missing those abilities when I go into old, capped content. Hopefully they can re-tune it a bit to give access to basic bread and butter abilities before 50.

I really appreciate how Heavensward and Stormblood have kept in mind the mage side of Paladin, and I hope 5.0 keeps the trend going.
