Dungeon Treasure Coffers: Must all players in the party "right-click" on them?

I've completed the first 2 dungeons in ffxiv: Sastasha & Tam-Tara Deepcroft. In both, there were treasure coffers. I watched as other players opened them, expecting that whatever loot was inside would be visible to all party members. And that we would then have a chance to vote "need" "greed" or "pass".

However, I didn't see any loot notice until I had my character run over to the loot coffer and 'right-click' on it.

My question: Is it necessary to right-click on every dungeon loot coffer (treasure chest) to have a chance to gain the loot that might be inside?

Thanks for any help and info...I'm really enjoying ffxiv so far!

No, some(most) non-boss coffers have random drops in them that will go to random players regardless of the person that opens them. You can check your chat log to see who gets what. It's RNG.

There's a UI element that shows up that you can click on as soon as someone else opens a coffer.

Yeah, lets say that the chest had 25 water shards and 5 aldgoat skins inside. The game will automatically determine a random winner for both(separately) and deposit them straight into the inventory of whichever person(or people) were picked. When you get to a chest with an item inside, a UI element should automatically pop up asking how you want to roll. If it doesnt pop up(this might be a UI setting), therell be an element on your screen you can activate to open it(or you can interact with the chest yourself).

On PS4 at least, the loot window only comes up automatically if you are the person who opened the chest. Otherwise you just get the button in the corner of your screen, the same as for things like player commendation, or duty confirmation if you minimised the original pop-up.

(Possibly it also comes up if you interact with the chest after someone else opened it, which sounds like what GemStar is doing.)

Thank you all for your comments ... they are helpful! I will play around with my UI. I think it's set so that I'm not getting the automatic popup. And it's likely I just missed seeing the "button in the corner of the screen". FYI, I play on an iMac. Not sure if that has anything to do with this or not. But again, thanks for advice!

The Mac UI should be identical to the PC version.
Honestly the PS4 isn't even that different!

The loot button will appear in the HUD element called "Notices". There's not a visible frame when you're playing, but that's what the element is called in your /hudlayout. It's the same area that contains pop-up notifications for party invites, friend requests, and returning after getting knocked out.

Keep in mind that there are two sorts of chests in these dungeons:

There will be small chests scattered throughout the dungeon, and these are the ones that have regular loot items, things like the 25 water shards and 5 aldgoat skins mentioned above. These are randomly distributed among the party members, and no loot window will pop up since the game decides who gets what. (I think that there may be some other items that need to be rolled on by the party that come out of these chests--manor varnish perhaps?--though they are more rare, and if I'm wrong about that, someone please correct me!)

The other chests are bigger, and only show up after your party defeats bosses in the dungeon. These chests will cause the pop-up window to show up, or the button that can be clicked and then shows the window, so that you can roll on the items--typically gear, but in later dungeons there may be special items like minions as well.

Manor varnish is a random chance that doesn't get rolled on. Most of the non useless potions are the cracked/dull/motheaten version/mats for the vintage version of the same item. Those except the few weapons and shields can be needed by anyone. Which of course causes a pop up window.
