20 outdoor items only for small house?!

I know this has been addressed in some older threads, but honestly, only 20 items?!

I was so happy to finally be able to afford a house, and in a nice spot. I was happily decorating the outdoor space when I go to place some stepping stones and boom! I was maxed out!

So I'm sure many of you will say 20 is fine, which for many people, I'm sure it is. But there are those people that would like to do more and I don't know why SE has this seeming arbitrary limit. Server issue? Wanting avoid yards looking like junk spaces?

If SE doesn't want their players going crazy, create a quest line to increase your allowable limit.

When fixing up a place, the devil is really in the details, which means little bits here and there can really allow players to add some personality. Just one player's opinion.

It all boils down to SE's ward implementation. The exteriors of houses are part of the persistent housing ward instance. To limit server resources they have to place a limit on how many items any one house can have. Could they and should they allow more and increase server size to handle it? IMO yes. Will they do this? Unlikely. This is just another reason for SE to create a parallel fully instanced housing system as they could make the exterior and interior part of a single instance and allow for more total objects since they would be dynamically created and deleted.

As Claviusnex said, the ward system is what is causing an issue. Inside the house you're just loading your furniture, but outside you're loading everyone's. At the moment it's loading up 730 pieces of furniture for the whole ward plus the exterior decor choices for each house. If we had individually instances houses, you'd likely have a lot more room/item slots for outdoor decorating.

    x86 limitations

But yeah I have a small as well. I think I made out well with what I could, but a couple more spots would have really brought everything together. Like I don't even think I'd use 25 slots, but right now I can't fit everything I'd like to.

you have the aetherit, chocobo stable, garden, mailbox - already 4 items just for the basic functions of housing. that's almost 1/4 already gone before you even started with decorating.

they should at least getting rid of the aetherit! let us just teleport to our house by default.

Thanks for the great replies. As I suspected there are some server issues. I like the ward system as it does give the area more of a community feel when you can run around and see people's custom yards.

But I think Tint made some great points that some items, specifically the four she mentioned, should be a given.

Hopefully SE will one day give it some attention. However the issue has been around for nearly four years, so I don't think it's any kind of priority for them.

Agreed, 20 slots is too little, however, you can still do a LOT with a 20 slot limit. I don't have a mailbox, or Choco stables in my yards, I use my FC house, or apt if I need to check mail (since I only get 3-4 mail delivery per week). I do however, use the garden.

In my Shirogane small yard, I have:
Aetheryte, garden, Oriental bridge, large pond, two hingan hot springs glitched over fence, oriental tea bench, 4 bamboo patches, oriental deck, two Firefly cages, two lupins, and a few Glade path lights . It REALLY fills up nicely.

Yes, I too had to get creative. I like how my yard looks but there were other things I really wanted to do and bummed I can't. Certainly not the end of the world, but we can dream that SE will find a solution one day. One. Day. ;-)

I always seem to want to place 21 items on my yard when decorating, but I'm fairly happy with what I have with 20 atm, I should say though that I don't have a mailbox or chocobo stable because I don't need them. I'm also always at the limit on the inside too (199 in my house and 100 in my FC room) so I'm generally an over decorator.

Mailbox (default) and Teleport should be built in. If people want to place a custom teleport or mailbox fine but they should not force us to use 2 spots for these necessities. That's 10 percent of a small houses allotment for outdoor decor.
