Try it. Shin has a really big pool relative to other bosses, that's why he has tails you kill to knock off 400k HP. Other bosses go down fast enough without it. Oh, and I forgot another reason; the LB got the player killed at some point, and he's wary of using it.

The only relevance of LB usefulness is how much damage you do with it vs how much damage you would be doing otherwise.

That does not change based on boss HP. Shinryu specifically should be using an LB3 before adds, then a caster LB3 on his wings and back for maximum LB effectiveness.

This is, of course, assuming you're in a group where nobody fucks up and dies. But that's also true for every boss and LB usage.
