I regret getting a large house...

So yesterday aside from being one of those douchebags taking a large from a FC that was waiting on purchasing the plot, I really regret it now... I love decorating houses. I've had a couple of smalls now, a medium and thought maybe now it's time to go bigger.

I've had fun decorating the house and it looks quite good but it does feel too large for me just being there alone. Mediums have that nice cozy feeling to them.

If I relocate again some day I don't get any gil back? Other than waiting 45 days to get 80% of my gil when it would ge demolished right? And with that I would end up with no house at all. Kinda makes me wish SE would do some changes to that, now I am stuck with this large plot.

You wont get a refund for relocating, no.

So my recommendation would be: Might aswell try and decorate the large one!
You can always size it down yourself, by blocking of parts of empty space using walls, for example. I know an empty large one seems really uninviting and difficult to fill, but they can look cozy, too!
Put up walls, dont use the full basement, block off parts from the entry hall - or just turn them into smaller rooms!

You shouldnt feel bad about an FC not getting a large plot aswell - its something they "want", not "need". Just as much as you wanted it at first - sucks that it didnt turn out how you imagined it. I could see that being just as being overwhelmed at first though! Had the same feeling once I bought my large plot - I had so many things I wanted to do with it, until I actually could. Took me a bit to recover from that and have ideas coming in again. Now I love my large home and I can asure you: it has cozy spots aswell! Just need to play your cards right!

If it feels to empty - put up NPCs! Share it with friends! Ignore and block parts of it completly and focus on the rest!

You don't get any gil back for relocating, but if the cost of relocating is more than 30% of the cost of your current plot, the relocation cost is waived. If it's less than 30% than the relocation is discounted by that much.

Personally I would find a large way too big for my private house. I like to decorate my personal house in a way that makes sense for one person living in it, which means I don't want to put in like 5 beds, or a bunch of separate tables. And it is very hard to fill up a large house in that style. My medium house works perfectly as a private residence, though, and I can fill my FC's large house with all the ideas that work for lots of people.

That said, I definitely agree with Vidu that you shouldn't feel guilty about "stealing" a large house. If anyone is upset that they didn't get the house they want, they should be mad at SE, not the player that got it.

You can always max npc limit and build beds etc for all of them as your live-in housekeepers (or harem lol). Personally I have just beds for 6 npcs and 2 retainers and it's already taking a lot of space in medium house.

Blank partitions are great for this kind of thing. You can use them to make rooms and really help divide things up into their own little spaces. I do it with my medium. The only issue is a severe lack of doors as your only option are sliding asian style doors or a mahogany door partition.

You could get a refund if you move from congested server onto a preferred one. Or at least thats how it used to be, not too sure if the offer still applies.

30% of the bottom price of that plot, not what you paid for. So say its a 1st class plot they paid 50m for. Its not 30% of 50m they get but 30% of 24.8m which is the cost of the plot after its final devaluation. It's how they getcha. It's better just to wait out the 45 days or w/e it is and get 80% back. Stinks to go without a house for that long but if the gil is important, gotta do what you gotta do.
