    An unexpected error has occurred. Exiting Final Fantasy XIV.

    While playing Final Fantasy XIV, my game will crash and display the error message seen in the following picture:



    CPU: i7-7700K
    GPU: GTX 1080
    Motherboard: MSI Z270 PC Mate
    Operating System: Windows 10

    Here are some things I have already tried:

    -Reinstalling FFXIV
    -Reinstalling Windows 10
    -Reinstalling graphics drivers
    -Removing overclock of graphics card and using a more aggressive fan curve
    -Turning off all Windows 10 Game Mode features

    The crash seems to happen at random. Some days I can play the game without a crash. Some days the crash happens every few minutes and I must stop playing the game. It has happened in areas that are not graphically demanding. My game is installed on the C:\ drive by the way.

    Any help is appreciated!

    When did this first start happening? Did anything change/update on your PC that coincides with this?

    Do you notice any pattern to the crashes (only when teleporting, mostly in major cities, etc.)?

    The "XAudio2" part of the error makes it look like an audio driver crash. Do you have dedicated sound card? What is your audio setup like?

    This is my first time playing FFXIV on this pc and the crashes started happening on the very first day, so I have no updates or changes I can point to.

    The crashes have happened inside and outside Gridania. They have happened while talking to NPCs, accepting quests, fighting monsters, and just walking around. I don't see any pattern.

    For my audio setup I have my headphones plugged into a FiiO E10K USB DAC. This AMP/DAC is the only enabled sound output on my pc; I disabled the other ones.

    Can you try playing the game without the DAC? Can you connect the headphones directly into the PC or use some other audio device? See if this has any affect on the crashes.

    I played the game with my AMP/DAC unplugged from my PC and my headphones plugged in directly and experienced the same crash with the same errors while running inside of a building.

    Can you submit a FFXIV system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.'

    Thank you for the information Rombaglonic.

    I'd suggest checking the software drivers for the FiiO USB DAC and see if there are any more recent firmware or driver updates. If not, try reinstalling the drivers (or any program that may have come with the DAC).

    Additionally, I'd suggest disabling any other sound devices that your are not using. Right click the sound icon in the system tray and select 'Playback Devices.' Here, disable everything that you are not using.

    FiiO doesn't have drivers for the E10K. I've been using the ones that come with Windows 10. And those drivers were reinstalled when I reinstalled Windows 10.

    And yes, I did make sure to disable sources of sound that I wasn't using, leaving my E10K as the only source of sound in the Playback Devices.

    I feel bad that I just paid for a month of game time but I can't really play the game. Do you know if there's anyway to get a refund or to save my game time for a later date when I don't have this problem anymore?
