    1.0 last stand style battle

I just finished watching the noclip documentary about the rise and fall of 1.0 and one of things that I missed out on as a lover of FF is that last week on 1.0 with Monster spawning outside and in the major towns and players of all levels coming to the defense in an epic battle of immeasurable scale!!

Is that something that ever could be implemented again? and how would it be done? My guess would be a massive repeating fate chain right outside Ul'dah, Gridania, Limsa, Ishgard, and possibly even in the far east with the biggest, strongest monsters that spawn on repeat as part of a weekly or seasonal event.

Or am I alone in wanting some kind of temporary addition that throws the usual playstyle out the window for a short while

Virtually none I'm afraid. It's exactly because 1.0 was being shutdown and replaced, that they could afford to add things like that which normally would completely interfere with the normal flow of the game.

Also the "enemies invading the three cities/aetheryte camps" was actually also for pragmatic reasons - it was no coincidence that these were places that players tended to idle at, and given 1.0's awful server structure and zone design, if there were more than a certain amount of players in a particular area it would cause severe lag or even crash the game.

It was so bad the Inn Room in Ul'dah was completely broken due to Ul'dah being the 'endgame' meeting place in 1.0, which SE never was able to even fix - they ended up putting in a work-around by using a back door (from a NPC near the fountain under the Husting's Strip) to enter it right up to the end of service. Thus the enemies pouring into the cities like Ul'dah was to actually force players out of them and to not idle there for long periods.

Hence I don't see this ever happening again I'm afraid. It was literally one of those 'once-in-a-lifetime' things that will never be repeated sadly.

    Well that sucks big choco-balls

As an avid fan of ff, I was invited to the beta of 1.0, but didn't have any hardware capable of playing. I still don't, my PCs are sorely lacking in what was needed to run the game, and I feel like I missed out on the whole transition. Its just amazing to think about how much this game turned from 1.x to ARR and how actually playable it became, but without having hands on experience of it, I feel like I'll never appreciate it to the same level.

ah well. Would be fun to have a similar event in place in future though. I remember playing an old Korean MMO years ago and they had a glitch where a Boss monster spawned in town and players went nuts trying to destroy it. one of my most memorable gaming experiences. Would love to do something like that again in future

Alas, such battles are, quite literally, Legends.

I seriously doubt that something like the end of 1.0 could ever be repeated. The result was the Cataclysm. We've been dealing with the aftermath ever since.

I'd definitely like them to take parts from 1.0 that were reletively successful but GMs spawning monsters in City-states randomly wouldn't go over well, I'm sure an instanced battle could do that but I doubt it would have the same kind of impact a random attack in the open world would have. Oh and that 1.0 final day was super laggy so there's that.

It'd be cool, but that was done to keep community interaction just before the game died.
So I'd imagine if they did that for the current ff14,it would also be before its death.

Personally what I'd really love is them having special 1.23b servers (the last version of 1.0), unlockable upon completing stormblood with a warning that any bugs/issues found in these special servers will never be addressed, and let us who want to experience the original's best version do so!

They could do something like Besieged in FFXI if they want. At regular intervals, a beastman army would try to invade one the big cities to steal a relic, or even kidnap some NPCs.
You could still access one part of the city witout any issue.

They had a similar system towards the end of Star Wars Galaxies (if anybody played that) where an invasion would happen on a town and there were participation medals for how you contributed. They even had construction medals for crafters to build turrets and walls and the like. That could be a thing in xiv, but I don't know how to implement it with the current lore. Was a neat concept. I just like the idea of random players getting together in the middle of the world map to partake in some form of timed content.

Inb4 'What you're talking about is Fates' I know Fates are a thing, but people don't really do them and they're not quite on the same grand scale.

How about a map wide fate on the Azim Steppe or something like that which lasts for 40 minutes instead of the usual 15? FCs arriving half way through to turn the tide in a long epic battle?

I dunno. Seems like it would be cool

You can probably turn an instanced variant of a particular zone into an all-out siege that where one must fight to recapture tactically advantageous vantage points and aetherytes while requiring a large part of the relevant active playerbase (e.g. those with level 70s online atm, scaled to a certain portion and then increasing difficulty and reward with participation in excess of that minimum/excess portion), but that'd be a content type in and off itself, not a world-wide shift of any sort.
