    Harsher, and more common status ailments - {Yes please!}

As it currently stands status ailments are not very detrimental when it comes actually fighting. Yoshi-P and team is making massive medicine revamps which will be quite useful for such situations. As it stands now however, all the items relating to negating status ailments are quite useless.

I’m going to use FFXI as a reference here for a moment. So get over it.

When one was poisoned by a Funguar in West Ronfaure, you knew there was a darn good chance you were about to die. Now in FFXIV, I have 3,000 HP and I’m losing like 20 HP every 5 seconds? (Outside of Cassie, because that Morbol can be a little mean). I don’t even need to heal through that because by the time it has worn off it hasn’t even done anything to me.

If I was silenced by imps in Caedarva mire as a mage, my Party has a good chance at wiping because I wasn’t smart enough to bring Echoes along with me. In FFXIV, everyone has cure and can withstand if their main healer gets silenced for the massive 30 seconds.

Blind in XI was simply evil, especially when using multi hit weapon skills. In XIV, monsters die so quickly one person being blind doesn’t do anything to the party’s damage output.

Those are just some examples of how status ailments are simply too weak in XIV. The problem isn’t limited to just that though because these effects are rarely used by the mobs within the game. There are hardly any magic based monsters.

I understand that these effects are still under the FFXIV 1.0 battle system and this quite possibly may change with 2.0. They will be adding new monsters, bringing back old spells that were eliminated, and reconfiguring the battle system. So it is a possibility that this suggestion may already be being considered by the development team. However the suggestion can’t hurt.

Please Yoshi-P. I want to say “Dammit! I’m silenced ” rather than “Oh, I’m silenced…..cool

You know a book is a Really good book when it elicits some kind of powerful emotional response from you (Hunger Games and Twilight were like that for me, believe it or not). FFXI isn't a book, but lemme tell you, most status ailments in that game produced a lot of emotional response from me...and verbal ones, to boot (and not necessarily Nice ones, either). That being said, it was an element that brought the game to vivid life, and made it more enjoyable, and I'd love to see the same level in FFXIV.

While I agree with the OP, I would also be able to inflict status ailments... See a mage? Silence it. Oh wait, I can't anymore.

I miss silence as well Can we have mute too please? and sap! I could go on all day. They are probably going to be putting all of that back into the game eventually. It would be silly not to!<3

I'm with you all on this one. Status effects are a necessity, especially in a Final Fantasy. Offensively, having them as secondary effects does not cut it. Defensively, they bring a whole knew level to combat that this game is still missing. I like the whole group vs. group combat, but it's still kind of a zerg fest.

As a white mage (or RDM) I appreciated the challenge that these ailments brought. I would have to pay careful attention to when the tank was about to get paralyzed so I can heal him up (or bad things would happen).
I would have to remember to be echo drops with me.. (or bad things would happen).

That (among many other traits in combat mechanis in FFXI) were some of the finer points that made FFXI much more 'strategic'. In their quest to make FFXIV simple they have succeeded in removing this.

Sadly, in also making fighting multiple mobs at the same time common, it is also hard to put this back. We no longer have the time to focus on one (and only one) mob over the course of several minutes to ensure everything is done right. We have to focus on 2-3 (or more) mobs at a time, which die so quickly there is no need to really worry about strategy.

I am hoping 2.0 brings back some more finer details to combat strategy, rather than simply point & click.

Man Poison is strong in this game, at least when the stupid Djiggas do it (and it's probably the most dangerous part of Bad Breath). Paralyze is also extremely annoying in this game like in FF11 but in this game it doesn't reset your recast timers to maximum when you fail, and I hope it stays that way haha

I do think they should last longer and be more plentiful and potent, though, so the status clearing potions have more value. I'm going to enjoy the hell out of Esuna regardless =P

I just hope the status effects wear off after a reasonable amount of time, at least for normal enemies. I remember getting Plagued by an Easy Prey raptor and it didn't wear off for over 20 minutes...

I think short of the launch funguar's poison, the vile gnat's shock spikes' stun, karakul and dodo sleep, there aren't very much ailments worth fearing.

Gnat's shock spike stun seems to affect even Light Shot, so it makes soloing a gnat a dangerous thing (especially with their lightning bolt attack).

FF10 and FF13 were the only two offline Final Fantasies that I ever used status effects to defeat an enemy. I think if more ailments were flying around, balancing the fight against Deprotect, Imperil, TP draining, MP draining, and the like... I imagine for XP and SB parties, people will avoid enemies that can afflict these, but if they were more prevalent (as well as the means to remove them).

Yes please! I want it to really matter if I have a status ailment.

Remembering back to FFXI, I was so excited to get my Erase scroll! I liked having to keep on top of removing crap from my party members. At best we would kill more efficiently and at worst we wouldn't get slaughtered.
