Most subscription-based MMOs out there today offer a free trial mode to test the game. You can sample the flavor of the game before deciding if you want to pay for the game and subscription.
Yes! Ffxiv also provides a benchmark too which is very nice of them. Tho I wish the benchmark could be used tested on MACs too.

    I miss it too.

Remember when you bought a game and that was it? All finished and full. DLC/Additional content could have been an amazing thing. Instead most companies use it to release half finished games for full price then make you buy the rest later.

Oh, it's probably a bit off-topic, but the video game manuals also. I loved their smell in the brand new games, and reading them on my way back home... And now they are all gone. Instead, now it's just full of advertising flyers. ( '-')

I think that ppl are seeing only the bad side of day 1 patches, because of that I would like to point out that, while companies are idd guilty of releasing buggy products, it wasn't that uncommon in the past either, FFVI had a critical bug in the evasion stat (aka it didn't work) that could've been fixed with a patch.
The witcher 3 was a huge success, but part of that success is also earned by the dev team releasing quickly fixes after launch since, there were several problems on different systems.
In my opinion, post launch support is much more important nowadays because of this and we should be very mindful of that. Or we'll get more WB shenanigans that tells us that they are too busy with DLCs than working tpo fix bugs

I find companies just milk gamers all around these days. I miss when you paid the game box price and you got the full game, no nickle and diming..
I miss the old games were you actually had to use your brain and play games late at night trying to get to a next stage..the fact that GAME OVER meant GAME OVER....Now back to reality, DLC content helps improve a game to a certain aspect. would you rather pay DLC price or a re release game almost $40+ with content included? In a way it's more beneficial for us to just pay add ons.

Frankly, SE is demonstrating pure greed... and we buy into it.
Do you even know how expansions work? Ok lets say we pay for a product that is printed. Box nothing else. I rather pay for OPTIONAL content than actual game patches that are not included in the game at the time of release. Now your perspective on greed apparently is misleading. It can only be greed if your forced to buy. Their running a business not a charity.

Well it is call supply and demand for a reason.

FF15 is a prime example. Release a title with a fragmented narrative, then release paid DLCs to patch all the holes....

They don't have a release date yet. CD Projekt said they will release it "When it's done", which is actually nice, because they want to release a finished game. They've been working on it since 2012 and people's guess (from official review sites) is that they will release it sometime between this year and the begining of 2019. Check their Twitter response, lol. It completely bashes on other publishers: Here

Tbh I don't agree with that, I found prompto and gladio dlc forgettable and in some ways even ignis didn't add too much to the plot to change it, frankly I would say that the story in ffxv was complete, but the problem was that had problems in the telling and some pacing, though my feelings on the whole are much more complex than that, there's a good meaning to the story, but it's not really immediate you need to actually think about it and when coupled with some incomprehensible dialogues you have with the bros you can understand why ppl actually don't like it.
TBH the mayor story explanations have come free of charge so we should me mindful of that

@lilseph that's not exactly true they stopped working on it during TW3 development, which is why I said it takes only 1 mediocre game for them to go under, but it's true that they also know that

Do we need to keep beating that dead horse around, really...?

Everyone knows that the game was rushed out by orders of the publishers and higher-ups of SE regardless of whether the directors and developers wanted to spend more time on the game. It was obvious from the getgo that the DLC's were parts of the story that should have been in the game and the people who give the orders to the developers were like "Nah, fam, you're going to follow this procedure whether you like it or not".

I don't blame the director, developers, or game designers for making a really nice game and then getting screwed over by the suits up top. In fact, I feel bad because they're taking the fall for what the greed of the collective stockholders and influential CEO members have done while the game designers are getting long working hours with a piss poor salary more than likely.

It wasn't a perfect game by any means, it shows plain as day, but there were still some parts of it that were enjoyable despite it's flaws and shortcomings. It would have been nice if the people working on the game didn't get screwed over because the higher-ups gave orders that they can't refuse...unless, they didn't want to keep their job anymore which wouldn't surprise me either if they were threatened with that.

You don't bite the hand that feeds you.
