FF14 and additional fees

Yes, another thread about this topic.

I find companies just milk gamers all around these days. I miss when you paid the game box price and you got the full game, no nickle and diming.

We pay for expansions and a sub in this game, yet continually more and more additional paid features are added. The whole point of a sub MMO is NOT for this to occur. I don't think I've ever come across a sub MMO with this many paid features before. ESO which has a large active community these days provides store currency if you choose to pay a monthly sub. Frankly, SE is demonstrating pure greed... and we buy into it.

Clearly many are willing to pay the sub plus the retainer fees, mog store items, companion app fees, ect... While I agree with all the complaint threads, things aren't going to change given the player base overall financially supports these features.

I know, I do appreciate the games and am happy to be alive in this current gamer market as it's really an exciting time for us as gamers.

But man...I sure do miss the shareware/free demos/complete game on release/0 pre-order bonuses/Expansion packs and quality DLC over DLC unlocking content already hidden in the game - days

Sadly Blizzard broke that dam so long ago that by now the line between sub and f2p is very blurred and you are correct it's not gonna change anytime soon since the playerbase at large is consuming this, the least we can do is to ask for fair treatement.

Also some funny bits, blizzard didn't even had to do that, when they launched the store it was at the peak of wow popularity, yet they did that and then tried as many way as possible to make their cash shop work.
I think that the worst was when some minion you could buy was not BOP and could be sold on the AH (and for the records the minions on the store were extremely strong for the pet battles too) which when you consider that some high end raid quality drops an be sold on the AH you get a terrible precedent.
The worst of all? at least FF14 forums gets up in flame when something like this happens (even though ppl are arguing over semantics here), but if you try to say that on a wow forum (or any blizzard game) oh boy......

edit: Frankly I'm having problems on beign angry about this practices since when I see in the forums requests for items on the cash shop, sometimes I feel like I'm the one that is in the wrong, dunno if other had that feeling

I mean... You can fully customize your character in WoW without paying. Why should I have to buy a 10$ Fantasia to change features of the same race. I think the FF14 store is far worse than WoW's also.

Thankfully some companies like CD Projekt still respect their customers. I hope they don't get corrupted in the future.

I don't remember how far you can go with the barbershop on wow, but tbf I would pair fantasia with their race change service since it is advertised as such, how ppl consider the shop I'd say it's to their opinion, the fact that in.game currency is more valuable on wow than here makes it worse in my opinion for the in-game effect, while it's true that we can say wow at least tries to sell you something while FF14 is mostly with recolored mounts and emotes that are ripped from in-game animations, which depending on perspective can be considered way worse.

That said because they essentially legalized it, they will forever remain the worst in my wiew, even worse than konami and EA (this is very biased however so not a fact)

edit: @lilseph: sadly it'll happen, CD project has already fought many attemps from other companies of buying them, so far they've been successfull but they can just do so much, It'll just need 1 mediocre game to tip the scale and end them I'm afraid and when it'll happen it'll be truly over

Are you sure they are the same?
WoW only let you swap the face presets and there is no height in that game.
FF14 on other hand let you adjust minor details on the preset, it seems on different level of character customization.
If you are not touch the minor details of face preset and character height, hairstylist already let you customize your character same way wow barber offered.

The barber in WoW currently allows the change of:
Face
Hair style
Hair color
Other (dependant on race this could be piercings/tusks/horns/etc)

In the upcoming expansion it will also include skin color. The only thing it won't change that character creation allows is race and gender.

i hate that people defend buying a game but then paying too keep playing. that is pretty scummy to me.

i can own a game but can't play it unless i hand over extra cash.

This off topic but my goodness I really do miss the free demos. Being able to test a game before purchase was always nice.
