This game doesn't have any lasting stuff on here to make me warrant staying subbed til the very end imo. FFXI has a multitude of content and stuff to do that imo makes FFXIV look like a anime, when one season is over, a new season begins and then as quick as the season started, it's the series finale. That's how this game is imho. Love the game, but not enough to make me stay subbed after they release their final expansion or storyline finale arc (ala ffxi rhapsodies style).

Comparing FFXI isn't fair as it been out much much longer. However if we are going to compare expansion to expansion then i would say XI did offer more content (Sky, Sea, dynamis) as Aht Urghan was the 3rd expansion im not mentioning those system and endgame content.

In fairness, I think XIV's push to emulate other modern MMOs really shot it in the foot in some ways, longevity-wise. I suspect our memories of FFXI wouldn't be half as good if every expansion had come with a level cap increase and a wiping of the slate, item-wise. The end-game during the ToAU era was great because we had multiple expansions worth of relevant content - Dynamis, {sky}, {sea}, Einherjar, Salvage, etc.

The vertical itemization / rapid depreciation that MMOs often embrace now has some really nasty downsides. About the only thing that 'lasts' in FFXIV are your Glamours and your House, and even the latter doesn't apply if you don't stay subbed...
