    A non-magic healer

I pulled out my old PS emulation of Final Fantasy tactics to show it to a friend the other day, and suddenly had an idea for a non-magic based healer. Basicy....the Chemist.

I don't even think you would need to break the healing mold to much. simply have him/her throw potions or throw up a potion that explodes to do an AoE healing. I realize that the 1-50 levels for healers are pretty formulaic. But the real treat might be it's mechanics.

So for mechanics I was thinking basically have you mixing effects. So as a basic example if you throw out a basic HoT potion/spell if you throw out a haste potion you get a very strong HoT that ticks twice as fast. Or using a hast and damage potion makes basic attacks do damage to all enemies in range and in front of the target.

In short, make it kind of like the ninja's ninjitsu where certain potion combos give certain buffs and effects. I personally would love a healer that had stronger support mechanics, and I love the AST.

Right now it's highly speculated that the next healer would be a non-magic healer many people want Dancer; however, Chemist are indeed more traditional Healers in the series so it's really up in the air which they would add. I doubt they would add another original healer next expansion since Astrologian was our last healer, and they probably want to use a job name that is familiar to pull in some players.

Chemist has been discussed quite a bit by the community for wanting it to be the next healer, unfortunately for the people who want chemist (me) dancer is picking up more hype and seems to be the obvious choice for the next healer which honestly won't be bad because it could give us a melee healer which sounds interesting.

A post was made a while back with what you seem to be getting at with the whole ninja mechanic and it really sounds fun and engaging.

There I was in a raid getting brutally slashed by a crazed Coeurl, I called out for help from the Chemist Healer.
...he blind tosses a potion right at me.

Melee healing? Oh please no....just no. If you really want to try something like that go play Wildstar's 'medic' class. I loved the medic right up until it came time to actually heal groups and it turns out not being able to quickly heal someone who needs it across the arena is a quick way to lead to party wipes. Unless you had something like Rift's 'chloromancer' healer, where damage done translates to healing given to a target or party. Which MIGHT work with a dancer type healer. But I would still rather have another healer that gave more support options like the AST over a melee healer.

Hey, it could be worse, in the future they shoot the medicine at you. ;p

I never played wildstar but I don't think our arenas are big enough where a melee healer who's heals are still ranged would be a problem, I'm realizing now u probably read it as everything would be a 5 yalm ranged skill. Regardless I still want chemist but wouldn't be upset if we got dancer.

I know this would be NOTORIOUSLY difficult to balance, but I wouldn't mind seeing something akin to how Discipline Priest currently works in WoW (primarily healing through it's damage output)

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

Just to clarify, do you by non magical healer do you mean Gameplay wise (uses TP/TP & Mana) or theme (Magitek, Dance, chemistry, etc etc)?

I think the Chemist could be a lot of fun and the mixing sounds interesting if balanced correctly. Maybe it could use TP instead of MP though MP is just an arbitrary game mechanic, so they could still be “non-magical” and use MP as a resource to prevent them from having unlimited Heals.

One concern I have for a lot of people mentioning a healer that heals through damage is not that the damage aspect would be unbalanaced but that there are frequently situations where enemies/bosses become untargrtable while damage is still occurring. This would make it hard to have this healer keep people up during these mechanics unless they had enough other Heals that didn’t rely on damage to keep the party up. I know other games have done similar things before such as Warhammer AoR where there were battle healers, but they at least had the ability to heal if not attacking just not as well? I can’t remember their exact mechanics.
