FFXIV FORUMS = CRYINGCRAFT
Very good post, much kudos and thanks for the time invested
I only worry about one potentially high risk factor: "Mediocre Content"
From a developers standpoint, if you splinter one class into so many facets then you now have a over complicated requirement. Multiply that new development burden with the fact that not only one class is a requirement but all the rest as well.
So let's say you are developing the mechanics of one class splinter:
(Ranger has become 5 variants: each variant will individually need)
- rules to distinguish uniqueness (unique enmity calculations, etc.)
- quest content to unlock job and abilities, etc.
- abilities
- spells
- maybe more that i can't even think of
Now that that's out of the way: you have to deal with the other aspect that most players react/notice first
Aesthetics for each of those variants of Ranger
-weapons (does each variant require a unique stat set?)
-armor (helm, body, legs, hands, feet, etc)
-accessories (rings, etc.)
-more that i probable haven't even considered
Now... that was a lot of work. Guess what you still have to develop all the other variants for other classes :'(
Just my two cents, but if people want ALL these variants, seems that SE will have less time to devote to quality when spread loading enough content to cover all those variants thus leading to the need for "unique roles" plummeting the game into mediocre and overly repeated/reused gear/armor/ability/spell/etc. skins and animations. When instead we could have still had a chance at "defined roles" without asking for "overly done variants of one role"
Just a thought, what do you think?
